Wrong beer

    We specialize in craft beers at our restaurant.  It's the whole reason people come here.

    One customer gave us 1 star on yelp because we don't carry Budweiser!

    MMMMmmmm  Budweiser, sugariest of the rice beers. Or is it corn now? Sorry, corniest of the sugar beers. Meh, whatever, just ferment some random grain and put it in a can. We'll slurp it up.

    That was a bit harsh, but we get that too at the brew pub. Not everyone knows what a brew pub is, not everyone is expecting craft beer. Your job is to educate. Give them tasters. Help them find something they like. Always have a "light" beer on tap. We brew one just for said people. Or at least bottles of cider. Broaden your clientele.

    Maybe your guest got craft beer confused with crap beer. Budweiser should always be on a crap beer menu :). Sorry for the review you got, those kinds are the worst. I had one the other day that knocked us because we didn't have a FREE happy hour for diamond members ( we are a hotel restaurant).

    Don't you just love it! 

    We're in a small mid-western town and were told 4 years ago "all you need to worry about is Busch light and PBR in a can".  We sort of ignored that and carry 40 or so bottles and 9 taps.  We offer about 6 of the yellow beers just to keep folks happy, but our focus is on introducing them into the wonderful world of crafts. 

    Take your Yelp review and blow that sucka up for the wall!  Make it a positive and you will be amazed at how supportive your customers will be of it, I would bet the "negative" review will end up working in your favor by drawing folks who are on the fence over to the dark side!  Good luck and don't waiver!

    Very good point/idea there DG.  But to tell you the truth, I was thinking from the other side of the coin.  Generally speaking, we all are in a service industry.  That service part being that we should try, at least a little bit, to give customers what they want and are going to pay for.  NO, I'm not a Budweiser drinker, but I'll be gobsmacked if I don't have some on hand in places where it's popular to paying customers. 

    I understand and truly respect that a craft beer restaurant wants patrons to drink the finest brews.  I also understand and respect that rent needs to be paid.  Look, I'm not sayin' ... I'm just sayin'.   Conversationally and all.

    Busch Light and LaBatt's Blue are big here.

    Craft beers are too expensive to get drunk on..........

    The other's are cheaper and you can drink more of them for the same price....

    after all.........

    you drink beer to get drunk right????  

    It's a mind set that is difficult to break.

    You can stick to your guns and let the one star roll off your back and it'll eventually be a lone star among the good reviews. Or you can comment on it, explain why you don't carry Bud Lite, and maybe get into a pushing match with the OP and like minded beer drinkers.

    Or you can carry BL, PBR, and a few others like them and people will buy them. If you're a good sales person, you can use them as gateway brews to craft beers. Some people will switch, others won't, but you'll be selling a beer.

    We are also a craft beer restaurant and also do not carry Budweiser. That person is NOT your customer. There is nothing you can do to help him. You can either ignore the review or POLITELY post a response to his review stating what your perspective on craft beer is and why you don't carry macro lagers.
