"Vaping" in the dining room.

    So far there are no real laws about "vaping" in restaurants in OZ that I am aware of ... i`m undecided weather to allow it or not in my dinning room. It doesn't seem to bother anyone but .. well what do you think ?

    I suspect you will get complaints and it won't be worth it. Of course, the more casual your restaurant the more acceptable it might be but the anti smoking attitudes are so prevalent these days I don't see anyone accepting it. Certainly not in fine dining.

    Currently, vaping continues to be passed off as not
    smoking. But that's changing, and WILL change eventually,
    resulting in the same laws applying as do to cigarettes.
    The hard part seems to be convincing those who are doing it
    that they are indeed smoking. And that it is indeed unhealthy
    for both them and those around them.

    Interesting topic. Hopefully owners will weigh in on same.

    Here in the USA, I think the jury is still out on fda (?) Regulations re if same is safe, as I've seen recent news on e cigs exploding and injuring folks.

    I am a longtime smoker, but not taking sides.

    Do your employees smoke and is there a designated area?

    I bought ecigs a few years ago. As I understood it, there was no nicotine - just mist. Still people waved their hands in my face.

    Time will tell.

    Even if there is zero risk of second hand Vap (which, from the looks of things seems pretty likely)  I think the anti-smoking policies and public education have demonized even the appearance of smoking to the point where vaping is going to piss some people off.  Heck, I smoke tobacco and watching people vap unnerves me...I think its that uncanny valley effect, it looks so much like smoke but our other senses tell there is none present.  

    The stumbling block is the culture of vaping. You kind of get two poles, "taste chasers" and "storm chasers."  The storm chasing model is all about creating a lot of rolling vapor which I suspect would get really annoying in a dining room.

    I dunno.... In this city (Vancouver) the vapes tend to be fruit flavours--cherry, bubblegum, etc. I personally can't take an adult seriously who is blowing cherry flavoured vapour my way, I'd probably tell them to put their toy away.

    with the flavour scented vaps can you actually detect the smell if you aren't inhaling?  If this is the deal then vaping is less a smoking experience than a hyper internalized version of Glade Pulg-Ins.

    A-yup, cherry, bubble gum, pina colada, you name it, and you can smell it. I can't take the stuff seriously.

    Hi. Yeah most of the cooks are now using vapes with nicotine oil. We talked to all the staff and your replies have solidified the deal that vaping in the dinning room is not happening. We are going to treat it like they are conventional cigarettes and they can use the smoking areas for it.
