Hey, so I recently acquired several Madagascar Grade A Vanilla Beans (about 35 in total) and I don’t really know what to do with them all. I’ve already used some in baking and used the empty pods to make vanilla sugar. Anyhow, I’m looking for something interesting to do with them, any ideas?

On a side note, I was thinking of infusing a bottle of rum with the vanilla, has anyone tried this?

Hello Brandon,

Great projects ahead !

Have you ever thought about making vanilla bean paste  ?  I have seen it sold in stores. I would imagine they grind it then add corn syrup or something to give it the paste texture.

just a thought.

You can add several to a small jar of vodka or rum and make an extract.

You can also cut off one end and insert the cut end into a container of rum, vodka or I guess any spirit that you like and the liquid will slowly hydrate the bean.  I think it has to be left for some time but then you can squeeze out the bean paste as you zip your fingers down the bean
