Travel, Eat, Cook and Learn...

    Hey I'm an apprentice chef I qualify in December 2015 and then I'm looking to backpack America and or Europe ... Taste amazing food, meet people and learn as much as I can convince chefs or locals to teach me LOL would love any input or suggestions or to just talk

    i plan on doing the same thing in in 2014 or 2015 going to travel throughout latin america , covering argentina , chile , urugay , paraguay , peru , and bolivia , gonna be a blast. 

    Defintely try to eat alot of good food , and if possible get a part time job cookin , you will learn so much.

    Gothenberg is in Sweden. Lots of seafood here on the west coast, pork and root vegis in the winter.

    Hi everybody!

    I'm new in the forum, it's so exciting to meet new people all round the world to share my passion for food! I'm Max, 23 yrs old and argentinian. I'm actually in my last year of the culinary school and like Sarai said, I want to travel and gain some experience worldwide next year. The problem is that I have no experience at all...I have never been in a real kitchen, so I don't really know where to start. I would love to make an internship in another country.

    hello people.

    thats what i have done when i finished my studies, and i totally recommend it. it has opened my mind and spectre of ingredients, products, technices , seasonings, etc etc. I think the best way to became a better chef or cook its to be curious and always be seeking for more ways to learn and improve yourself.

    my advice is to do it as soon as you can, try to gather some money because for travelling you always need money. if its possible do some research in the inmgiration policies of the countries that you are planning to visit. depending from your nationality you will get different options, since i dont have european or us passport things get complicated sometimes , specially if you wanna work legally in a restaurant.

    when i was in my last year of my culinary career i heard that there was a working holiday visa for new zealand, since the daughter of a friend of my parents just returned from a year abroad and was speaking of what a great experience it was. the idea started growing in my mind so i started to do some averiguations in the matter, calling the embassy, googleing,etc etc. finally i spoke with my parents and they supported me, of course the visa had a cost, and in that moment i was just a trainee doing some part time so i couldnt afford it by myself, my parents agreed to loan me in order to return the amount when i came back.finally the day came and i was sitting in a plane that was about to cross the pacific ocean and land on a mistery island on the other side of the planet.

    my experiencie on new zealand was great. i learned a lot about the food industry, new zealand is a great producer of fruit and vegetalbes, quality lamb, and since its surrounded by sea and covered of rivers, forest and lakes the availability of seafood and game its incredible. me and my friends could walk to the shore rocks and gather some live and screaming enormous green shell mussels, that normally ate raw with just a squeeze of lemon juice, i still recall that amazing flavour only found in fresh and natural seafood. i also worked in an italian restauran almost for 8 months, washing dishes and cooking pizza, the owner was an italian guy called andy, whom was absolutely concerned about any aspect in his restaurant. he personally checked the food that came out from the kitchen, that was open faced so the customers could see us working. every tuesday and fridays we received fresh salmon, locally fished in an area called marloborough. the fish was packed in a termopack and covered in ice , the eyes were so bright that it appeared to be alive, when you are buying fish you always need to check if it isfresh, and seeing the eyes are bright its a sign of freshness. When i tasted that salmon i couldnt believe how tasty it was.

    my journey was full of these little experiencies that opened my mind, making me believe that studying its basic but the real school its out there. i dont wanna bore you with more of my stories but since then i didnot stop travelling, now in living in curacao, a small island in the caribbean working in a beach resort of one of the biggest companies in the hospitality bussiness and again, i totally recommend you to start travelling and im certain that once you start you will never stop.

    Norway has half the country covered with a beautiful coastline, where world's greatest fish and shellfish lives. we are also known to have the best lamb in the world, amongst other fantastic meats.

    temperatures in norway are in generally cold, so things here grow slower then most places, so the flavours develop in a whole other way..  Norwegian traditional food is something to put on your bucketlist!

    except norway runs out of butter :) just kidding but i would highly suggest scandinavia and the rest of europe before going across the us.
