Wow, I'm surprised (so far, 3 short, 2 medium, and only me for long)! Maybe it's because I'm so used to using them for so many things -- stirring the pasta pot, tossing salad, as well as picking up stuff and turning it. (Not that I'm trying to sway people to my point of view, but . . . :D) Of course, the long ones do poke you in the back more when you stick them in your pocket, but that just keeps you on your toes more.

I put down long because it's the most useful. But I wouldn't want to have to make that choice for real---except that I see no practical purpose for short tongs.

There's also the question of how long is long? Do you mean long as we'd define it in the kitchen? Or long as you'd define it when grilling?

I remember a number of years about (10-12) some newspaper in KY or somewhere down south got hold of a restaurant health inspectioin report. On it the inspector made mention of cooks putting tongs in their back pockets. Of course the newspaper ran with it and made it sound like it was the worst violation anyone could do. We used to do it all the time-at least you always knew where you put your tongs. Only trouble is that over time it tends to blow out your back pockets.

Picked one, but can't really disregard application.
Long for grill work or stirring large pots of pasta.
Medium for most everything else.
Small for banquet displays.

ewwww...tongs in my pocket? no way, I put my hands in there and money or pieces of paper with info. I can wash my hands and usually hang my tongs on a oven handle or something, but my pocket?.....

 What does being "hard up" mean?! Is that a regular expression?! I'm embarrassed because I tend not to understand many expressions...

[EDIT] I'm a SIMPLE MAN Gawd D.amn it! Haha [/EDIT]

Hey Chef, what size spoons and fork do you like to use. I'm ready for a life changing idea. Don't you think people in the kitchen use the tool that fits the job. Does it really matter what one we like. I don't like any of them, but I use them to accomplist the needs of the job at the time............................I'm going to get my Latte now, I think I'll have them put a 12oz lid on a 20 oz cup, I like 12 oz lids better............Lets see how it works out

Not every question has to be a deep thoughtful question. Sometimes these light hearted questions help break things up. If you don't like the question then don't answer. And forget about the Latte, I think you've had enough caffine already.
