My husband found this and forwarded it on to me:

I threw ours out straight a way and purchased a Grill Stone.

An alternative to a grill stone would be crumpled aluminum foil.  8)

I don't know about you, but that's not the way I brush my grill. Brush up and down, not across. I use a couple of different brushes daily, never had one come apart on me.

I've been using a Grill Wizard, that was recommended by America's Test Kitchen, for years now and I do like it.

I have read many articles on this and was absolutely blown away. I didn't realize that it was such a big issue. Once I read it I chucked my BBQ brush. I found this amazing BBQ brush that is actually like a huge pumice stone. It works amazing and the wonderful part, is when the head becomes too dirty or worn down, you can easily replace the head, so you don't have to go buy a while new brush.
