staging questions

    I don't know if this is the place for this topic but moving onward.....I've been only cooking for about five years now and never once have i done a stage.  I am going out west in two weeks on vacation and was thinking to myself this would be a perfect time to do so.  My question to you is how to go about doing this; should I email a place stating why i want to stage there, send a resume, cover letter, call them.....BTW ill be in Portland, long beach WA and Seattle WA.   Thanks in advance to all who take the time to give any advice...peace

    Just call and ask.  Even the best restaurants shouldn't turn away free help.  I've done quite a few stages at some of Chicago's best restaurants.
