Rescuing broken buttercream with a hairdryer

In case you are interested, this odd tip works.  I was making a buttercream and it separated (ok, I was rushing, so sue me) and I had heard that warming the bowl while beating fixed it.

My daughter held the hair dryer on medium setting about 4-5 inches from a heavy ceramic bowl while I beat.  I did not rotate the bowl so only one area, about 1/6 of the total probably was warming.   In about 4-5 minutes, it came together beautifully.

If you have a torch for making creme brulee, that works faster, just don't melt the bowl.

I tried it with the torch, but it was too powerful and started to cook the frosting on the side of the bowl.
