    Hi all,

I'm teaching guys how to eat healthier and have already created a couple of raw food recipes that are fairly easy to make.

I would be interested in learning more and getting any ideas for recipes that any caveman could make that is not used to cooking.

I actually use power tools to cook meals.  Mostly to introduce men who can't cook to the joys of cooking.  This breaks the ice and makes learning a lot more fun.  Gradually they learn to use real kitchen appliances and appreciate their value and the value of cleaning up.  Their wives fall in love with them all over again or at least they now are on a long leash.  LOL.

Looking forward to your quick recipes and I will post my raw food apple pie.   Cheers!

That my friend is called a salad.  LOL  Ha ha.

    Try this Apple Pie

I always used to laugh at people who where a little eccentric about food.  You know the ones that are vegan or like raw food.  Then a friend of mine had me taste her raw food pizza and I was really surprised how good it tasted.

I have a great recipe for raw food apple pie I created and most people don't even know it's raw.

I would love to trade you recipes and create a cookbook and include everyone who participates as authors and even co-writers and share in the fun.

Here is my raw food apple pie recipe:

    Ingredients:

    1 cup walnuts or pecans

    1 1/2 cups almonds

    1/2 cup figs

1/2 cup dark brown sugar  (or 1/4 cup maple syrup)

    zest from 2 oranges

    12 Granny Smith apples

    1/4 cup maple syrup

    2 ripen pears

    Method:

Add walnuts, sugar, almonds to food processor and grind until texture of fine sand.  Do not blend until a paste or it will not be easy to take out of the pan.

Add the figs (if dried, soak for 4 hours) and orange zest to mixture and mix with food processor.   You now have a nice crust that is more like play-doh.

Peel apples and pears.  Core apples and pears.  Put apples in food processor and process until consistency of chunky ice.   Slice pears into small orange slices.

Add a bit of flour to pan and kneed in the pie crust.  Put in chopped apples and top off with pear slices.

Enjoy!  (Make and tell me what you think.  If it's not the best apple pie you have ever eaten I will give you my recently published  DVD cookbook for free!)  Come on, who will dare me??  )

I'm a fan of Cold Black Bean Salad. Not sure if this is raw enough for you.

-1 can of Rotel (or in their raw form-Tomatoes, Onions and Chilies)

    -2 cans Black Beans (Rinsed)

    -1/3 C. Lemon Juice

    -1/3 C. Olive Oil

    -Sliced Green Onion

    -Cilantro

    -Salt

-Fridge for an hour or so to let the flavors meld.

Great for a refreshing Summer BBQ! You can adjust the heat level by the chili amount (or the Rotel you buy).

There is a dispute about Olive Oil being healthy or not. Personally I like the flavor better than most any other

oil I can get my hands on.

I don't suppose the black beans are raw? /img/vbsmilies/smilies/eek.gif  It's not raw food if some of the ingredients are cooked.

.....  and I was really surprised how good it tasted.

Does that mean you had never before eaten anything raw? Or is this just a throwaway line, designed to persuade us?

I have the same problem with raw food addicts as I do with vegans: it's not their choices, per se. But it tends to become a religion, and they're always preaching about it. I eat a lot of raw food, sometimes items that others think are strange to consume that way. But I also eat a lot of cooked food. I eat veggies as well as meat. Etc.

So, it won't surprise me in the least, to find folks reacting to this thread the way they did to IceMan's vegan one.

Actually the raw food diet does tolerate food being cooked up to 115F I believe.  I don't think you have to be vegan to follow the diet although dairy foods are often pasteurized.  That can be averted by using raw milk or raw cheese I suppose.

While I would never be extreme in this way, we do have one day a week where we eat raw food, usually wednesdays and it's usually just a salad.  I also make it a point to eat some raw food every day, usually fruits and yogurt and vegetables with hummus for example.

Pies are meant to be baked.. Enough Said... I dont need a Fruit Salad with the texture of "chunky ice" with some "play-doh" crust with flour mixed in.. Sorry but thats disgusting and my grandma would hit you with a switch. Pie is meant to be Rich Savory and/or Sweet.. Part of the enjoyment is from the buttery crumbly melt in your mouth crust... Raw food diet is not a win. sorry bub... But power tools are fun in cooking.. But weve used power tools in cooking since i worked in kitchens..

I will give you my recipe

Halibut ceviche in lime and chilli with rocket and pineapple salad (2 portions)

    180 g halibut fillet

    2 handful of rocket

    150 g pineapple

    1 small chilli pepper

    lime juice

    olive oil

    white pepper

    1 staranise

    4 cloves

    salt

    water

    pinch of sugar

Mix lime juice and water 3:1 ratio, sugar, chilli peppers, white pepper, few drops of olive oil, cloves and staranise (it is better to heat up to 60 degrees of C to let spices infuse better to marinade, then cool it down). Put whole fillet of halibut inside. Put in the fridge and leave to chill 24 hours. After that, take fish out and slice very thinly. It should be rare/ medium rare inside. Wash and strain rocket, mix it with pepper, cubed pineapple, salt and olive oil. Serve fish slices on the plate, pour little of dressing on the top, as well as salt, put one handful of salad besides.

If you don´t have 24 hours to do it, you can slice fish at first and then just pour dressing on the top, but marinating throughout night is better for cold cooking (process of acidity).
