    A very quick survey on how you begin baking. Do you separate ingredients beforehand or throw them all into one bowl?

    That really depends on WHAT you are "baking"!

    Example: Sponge cake and Pound cake use, basically, the same ingredients, the difference is how and when they are combined.

    one word: Mis en place.

    i get all my ingredients weighed out separately and then combine them accordingly.

    I just put together 24 Mason Jars of "Pre-made cookies in a jar" for a party - Mez in Plox all the way.

    As a home cook, i measure the ingredients as they are needed and add them as i go.  That is, if there isnlt some procedure down the line that will require quick availability of ingredients.  I do rfead the recipe first.

    I usually measure everything out before I start. This just makes it easier for me to add everything as I go. Otherwise, I'll just be scrambling to measure things out while I'm trying to mix things together. The more I can do up front just seems to make things go smoother for me.

    I first gather all the ingredients. If you discover that you are out of one then you haven't wasted much time and no ingredients. The other day at work someone went to make spinach rockefeller soup. They got about 45-60 minutes into the production when they discovered that there was no spinach.

    Well, i generally have all the basics and the first thing i think about it if the exceptional ingredients are there - bananas for banana cake, apples for apple pie, etc.

    Don't quite understand the purpose of the poll

    It sounds dumber than fried doggie doo, is it somehow Foodnetwork related?  A new twist for one of those perky dumber-than-fried doggie-doo "celebrity Chefs"?
