Preparing a special dish for Halloween and could use some advice

    I recently found a Halloween food post on how to make an appetizer that takes the shape of a flayed man's head. PICTURE

    The recipe ingredients are very flexible, allowing you to use any type of lunch meat for the outer layer, any type of red sauce for the middle layer, and cream cheese for the base. Now, my problem is that I can't think of any good meat, red sauce, and cream cheese combinations that would hold up well enough to be placed vertically and not slough off PLUS taste well together. The appetizer will have to served cold. I could even consider removing the red sauce option all together and using something other than cream cheese for a base. Hummus, maybe? I'm not entirely sure of how well different lunch meats can pair with some type of thick, creamy base.

    If there's anyone out there that can provide some insight, I would greatly appreciate it. I've been wracking my brain for weeks trying to think of an appetizing combination with little to show for it.

    a few thoughts at first glance.......italian dry salami, herbed cheese(poor man's boursin) or a pimento cheese base.... maybe diced spanish olives stuffed with pimento into the herb cheese....queen olive eyeballs, pepperoncini nostril holes, roasted red pepper strips draped around his throat....give him an italian name maybe....it would be funny to make toast points in finger shapes...

    If you want to imitate muscles, you should use prosciutto or speck.  they have the same striations, and are indeed muscles.  prosciutto or speck are both very good with cream cheese.
