    Hi all,

Can someone please explain the taste of a peppercorn medley to me?  What does the green and reddish peppercorns taste like by itself, by the way?  Thanks to all who reply.

    Cheers.

I think the best way to find out is to try it.  Separate them all out by colour and see if you can notice the difference.  I'm guessing that the flavours of the three would mix during storage, so if you can buy them separately, give that a go.  I think the green are meant to be milder and just for dressing, not so much for their heat.  Black, well, it tastes like black pepper.  Red - I have no idea.  Play around with them and see how that goes.  Good luck!

Ah.... the question without an answer.

There are many varieties of pepper-corns and most aren't even pepper as that was just a label to describe how something tasted.

    Start Here- http://pepper-passion.com/peppercorn-varieties

(yes it's a retail-site but it has good information)

Then to learn how varied even the humble black-peppercorn can be read this:

    http://www.seriouseats.com/2012/07/taste-test-black-pepper-what-are-differences-in-varieties.html

Long-Pepper (not really a pepper corn) finely grated over strawberries and cream is absolutely amazing!

The world is your playground!   Enjoy!
