Pan fried trout + Steamed asparagus + ???

    Tonight I'm frying some trouts, steaming some asparagus... and what else? 

    Potatoes seem to be the obvious choice, but I eliminated them because we ate a lot of potatoes already this week. 

    Rice, pasta... getting a bit tired of it. Quinoa? I usually reserve it for salads....

    Any idea?

    Fry up an onion, celery and whatever colourful veg you have in that fridge and add it to some couscous. Maybe ?

    I do know that. All I can come up with is "potato salad, potato puree, roasted potatoes, fried potatoes.... /img/vbsmilies/smilies/lol.gif  but I made a big shepherd's pie on monday so we've been eating potato puree for the past 3 days. I was thinking couscous too, but enhancing it a bit like you said is a good idea. 

    Now barley? That's not something I'm familiar with. Makes it all the more exciting! I may go for that.

    Ok so I won't have time to go to the store to get barley but I'm going to use your idea @petalsandcoco  !! I'm going to make some sort of warm tabbouleh: couscous, fresh tomatoes & avocadoes, mint & scallions, sliced almonds and raisins.

    Whenever I want to eat potatoes but have run out of ideas on how to eat them I visit tastespotting.com and I'm reminded of how versatile the potato really is.  My new thing is to slice the potatoes into very thin rounds, season with oil and herbs, and then arrange into little stacks.  Roast covered and then uncover halfway through.  

    Now I'm thinking out loud but I'd like to experiment with potato napoleons.  Perhaps with eggplant, tomatoes, mushrooms.  Must go think!

    Thank you Kouk'! The sauce is a simple mustard vinaigrette (mustard, vinegar, S & P, olive oil).

    Out and about running errands, last stop the market. Picked up some salmon and a can of beans, then get home, relax and read this.  What a coincidence!
