Sunday is Oscar night.  For us ladies it's like our version of our Superbowl.  I love watching the red carpet and the awards, all the ladies looking bedazzled and fabulous, living the good life.

So what are you all cooking for the superbowl?  I haven't decided yet.  Last year I roasted a rack of lamb but this year I'm thinking munchies and finger foods.  Something elegant of course, this is not the time for wing dings and nachos.

    KK,

I am hoping my movie wins, "The Help".

Best line : "You is kind. You is smart. You is important."  (best line to tell a child)

    Best scene : Minnie's pie.

I hope this movie wins on many levels.

As far as food goes, so far my sister and I will be providing our girlfriends assorted cheeses (especially boursin-all flavors) cheese straws, sesame crackers etc., stuffed mushrooms with crab meat, vichyssoise shooters, prosciutto and grilled peaches, shot of banana cream pie, assorted fruit.

We don't know what they will bring.

I have 2  wines for them to try,  Chocolate Box Shiraz and a bottle I just received from Cyprus, a Cabernet Sauvignon 2000, and of course , Pinot Grigio..

Of all the nominees I've only watched The Help and I did like it.  I hope Viola and Octavia get their wins.

I think I'm settling on a menu of assorted cheeses and charcute, crostini, I'm stealing your stuffed mushrooms idea but filled with creamy sausage stuffing.  If I can get some shopping early enough today I may attempt to make gravlax, otherwise I will get some smoked salmon instead.  Good wine and nice bread.

I have some fig jam that I made at Christmas time, do you think it's still good?

Now I have to think about some good crostini ideas.  Mushrooms perhaps.

    KK,

There is nothing great about our snacks.....the night is designed to have a few laughs, have some snacks. Your fig jam sounds great. Have you ever had carrot or rose petal jam, rose hip ? I was going through one of my mother's cookbooks today and there was a recipe for eggplant jam, eggplant jam ?

The other movie I really enjoyed was Hugo. I brought my nephew to see it, he just loved it, so did I.

    Petals.

Since, we watch is the following day when aired on Tve 1 in Madrid, and it is a work night; we are keeping things simple ...

    1stly; Some charcuterie on a wooden platter;

Iberian acorn fed ham sliced in ultra fine slithers

Pork Lion cured with wood, coffee and chili pepper

    Smoked Paprika Sausage

    Tuscan Salami with Fennel Seed

Also, we enjoy cheeses with an array of assorted crackers, Gristini, a variety of warm oven breads:

San Simón Smoked Cow Variety - Lugo, Galicia D.O.

    Camembert with its bloomy rind

Cured Manchego ( Ewe Variety )

Ceibrero - 60% cow variety and 40% goat variety - shaped like a Chef´s Hat from Lugo, Galicia

And some good red and some good white wines ...

    Dessert: chocolate

    Have a lovely Sunday.

    Margaux Cintrano.
