    Hi all,

I'm 64, retired and have been cooking for myself for over 40 years.

I've gotten pretty good at it... at least I enjoy my own cooking. It's become a hobby of mine but my first love is trains. I used to model in HO scale but now I'm a virtual model railroader after loosing everything I own in an apartment fire.

    Hello and welcome to Cheftalk.

How sad to lose all your model trains - so hard to start again when you have to pay out so much to even get back to where you were before the fire.  My husband is a steam railway buff here in the UK, he's even done a few driving courses, such is his passion for the big, smelly, gritty things!

Our membership is from around the world (I'm Scots, for instance) and all levels of culinary ability, so you'll feel right at home here.  The wikis, blogs, articles, reviews and photographs are all well worth spending time to view.  Join in on any thread you find of interest, or start your own in the relevant forum.  The three Professional fora are read-only for those of us who are not employed in a culinary trade, but still make interesting reading.

Hope to see you around the boards.

    Hey Rick,

There is nothing you need to do to remove yourself other than stop participating. Sorry to see you go. Please feel free to send me a pm about why you no longer want to participate I would be interested in knowing more.

    Hello there the Grindre,

I used to know a gentleman by the name of Peter Layland , he used to work for CP railways and got transferred out to BC. He had a lovely family , his wife was Alice ( friend of my mother) if I remember correctly. I was sometimes asked to look over their 4 kids sometimes. In the basement he had one of the biggest train collections I ever saw in my entire life. It would start at one end of the basement and run all around and right through the other end , there were bells and whistles blowing, miniature everything, and I mean everything , details upon details, it was a child's dream.

I am so sorry to hear about the apartment fire. It seems to me that you have such a great passion , one for trains and the other for food.

Rick, it would be a joy to hear from you,

I look forward to seeing you around the site.

    Petals.

By the way, a little about me, I cook privately at an estate, and bake & do a whole lot of other projects that give me a small thrill.
After all , life is way too short ......

    Petals.
