My Twinning Henckels experience.

    In a statement..... Don't buy this crap!

    You can spend a thousand dollars on a collection of Twinnings Knives easily. I did. You can believe their hype about quality steel, and lifetime guarantee.......in my experience, it's all a lie.

    two knives snapped in my hands, one injuring me... cutting a hard bun!!!!

    A Chefs knife on further inspection, has a bubble in the steel along the back.....likely it will break there at some point too.

    Henckels response??.... pay the shipping  to send them back so we can inspect them....!! 

    IF...(.IF!!!).... we find it to be a defect,then we will send you  a replacement.  If not, you pay shipping to have the broken ones returned to you, if you want them back.

     I should have bought Japanese quality knives...... If you are deciding between the two.....my advice? DO NOT CHOOSE Twinings.

    PS.. I told the Customer Service rep that I'd post this...... their reply was essentially...... go ahead!!. This is our policy. Deal with it.

     So, yes I'm angry... but without boring everyone with the personal details, I just wanted to share this with anyone buying knives.

    I wish I read something like this before I ponied up my money for this crap... may as well be Kitchen Aid crap. Yes, I threw out a set of those too.  Buy Japanese knives, once. A little more, but in the end, the same cost without the head/heartache.

    ... not sure where you bought your knives but the average retail price for each knife varies between 15-30 dollars for any non-petty knife.   The highest MSRP is 50, and you should never pay close to that....

    How are you spending a thousand dollars for a collection?   I don't even think they make that many variations?

    BTW - they aren't sold in sets or collections, at least from the manufacturer.

    As for the hype?  I don't know where you shop but if you'd done even one search here you'd find that they are regarded as the barest of acceptable knives for professional use. (along with Forschners).   Hell you can't even see them on many of the Henckels websites as they have zero advertising, although they come in cool coloured handles.

    I think you might have been taken to the cleaners by a local shop.

    ... you should send the knife back just to see what they do - honestly i've never seen a knife break under regular use.   Tips broken when dropped or chips when abused but never broken and I've had to work at quite a few places with the most amazingly shitty knives.

    Sorry for your frustration... but a 'good' collection of Japanese knives is going to run you way more than a thousand dollars. (and you'll have an even better chance of chipping / breaking tips on them than anything else - and you will not get a refund.... likely ever)

    PS - how did you snap a knife cutting a hard bun (I assume hard-roll?)

    If what you say happened to me here is what I would do -
    Call the reseller and ask to return the product. If it's been too long or the reseller refuses and used a credit card you may want to call your credit card company to see if they can help return the product for a refund and/or have their own warranty on the product.

    Talk to consumer protection agencies and see if you can find out a higher ups email to send them an email about all the issues.

    Taking you at your word and concluding the knives are defective, I can't say requiring you to return them for inspection is unreasonable.  What did you expect them to do?  At this stage of the game, for all they know, there might not be any broken knives, or even any knives at all. 

    So far I don't see poor post-sale service, I see an angry and unreasonable customer.  Please don't be insulted.  Your reaction is natural. 

    Based on your description it appears your knives were part of a bad run.  If the purchase was fairly recent, your first recourse (per Briant) should be the retailer.  If they won't supply a complete replacement set, contact Henckels again and ask if they'll replace the set pending inspection.  If not, send in those knives which failed and/or have visible manufacturer's defects.  

    Henckels doesn't market a "Twinnings" line in the US -- at least not as far as I know -- but there are many "Zwillings."  Henckels Zwillings carry a lifetime warranty, and my understanding -- based on the experience many other people -- is that they're extremely good about honoring it.  I know two different guys whose failed knives were made from discontinued series, and who were given the choice of replacement from similar new production, or full credit towards top of the line Miyabis.

    i have a Henckel poultry shear and the spring bent so they would not close properly after two time using it.  took them back to the Henkel store and they replaced it on the spot with no questions.  i paid 99.50€ for them and i broke them with my own carelessness and there was no problem.  best poultry shear i ever owned

    I have no experience with heckels (customer service) but if a knife snaps in half while cutting a bun then its probably a bad batch that was missed by QC as was said before. Which henckel's line did you buy? Twinnings is a tea brand....
