My first month working as a line cook

    HI,

    It's been one month I've worked at this restaurant. It's probably the most satisfying job ever.

    It's also very hard, I admit. Never seen a  restaurant that is so busy, and it's busy almost 24/7. Feels like a boot camp, which is good. Almost like if I can do this I can do anything else in the kitchen.

    One think I don't like is that the cooks don't hang out together at all. They just come and go. But that's okay.

    I haven't gotten much of a "positive" feedback, but that's what it is here. It doesn't bother me, and in a way I even like it The guys I work with are more like drill sergeants so to speak, moody and bitchy sometimes. But at the end of my shift they shake my hand and say see you tomorrow. I appreciate the economy of this.

    My goal is to become faster by better organizing/grouping the items from the tickets, I mean my first goal.

    A place like that is a great place to learn, be aggressive in your learning, show the chef that you want to work every station in the place, master everything, become the go to guy.
    Don't be a social butterfly at work, some people don't want to hang out after work more than just having a beer and going home. I have to see you again tomorrow for 10 hrs, that's enough. Stay at it and you will do well.

     Yeah, I know. I go there primarily  to work, not to socialize, but those two are not mutually exclusive, well, healthy bonding could benefit work. I'm just saying, that I used to work jobs where there was a healthy balance, camarederie, jokes, winding down, etc., and still remember those times as best times of my life. As I said, not essential though

    Sounds like you're enjoying the challenge and that's a good thing.  Remember - it's a team sport - be a player.
