My Finalized Dessert Menu...

    Well after long and hard thought people this is what I came up with.

    Mud Cake, this has crushed Oreos, cool whip and chocolate pudding..

    Old Fashioned Ice Cream Cake, yellow cake with vanilla ice cream slices sandwiched between the layers, iced with Cool whip....

    Million Dollar Pie- graham cracker crusts with filled with chopped pecans and pineapple topped with a whipped topping...

    I know it kind of has a Cool Whip theme about it but I did not figure it mattered since the main ingredients of each item is different. Any comments, suggestions or thoughts appreciated. I know its not your typical cookout menu but the eating and food serving will be indoors. And since its going to be warm outside I figured a sweet and cool refreshing idea approach would be better.

    Sounds like a fun gathering, and you can sign me up for a piece(or 6) of the mud cake.

    I love Ice Cream Cakes! when I moved to the states from Bremuda, I had a piece at one of my friends get togethers, it was love at first bite! How did I get through childhood with out the dynamic duo of Ice cream AND CAKE! why didn't we have these on the island I wondered too...

    For an even cooler and refreshing kick on the ice cream cake, have you though about including lime/lemon zest in the cool whip? Sound like it would give a little kick to it, and it would be easy enough to do. JMO.

    Have fun w/ it all, everything sounds great.

    Thanks CT, had not thought about the lemon and lime zest have to give that a try sounds like it might give it the kick it needs especially since barbecue is involved. The neat trick I am going to do with the mud cake I think is great. A #10 flower pot lined with foil and alternate crushed oreos and pudding in layers then top it off with the whipped creme. Get a silk flower or two and a clean new small garden spade for decoration and maybe some gummy worms sticking out of the pot....

    Hahaaa! that is awesome. ANY kids there will flip there lids over that, as well as the adults. you could even put in gummy worms for added soil effect:D

    I'm glad you are having fun with it, that is the key.

    Let me share a tip I found in an old diner cookbook. It works so well for pies or even done ahead and used to add a whip topping by the spoonful. "Soak" minature marshmellows in Heavy cream, add vanilla, maybe a little sugar and whip. Depending upon the brand of marshmellows, 1 part mellows to 2 parts cream) The whip cream stands wonderfully, doesn't seperate.

    When we have cook outs one of the easiest and most popular desserts is Strawberry Shortcake.
    We slice strawberries, sugar them well, put in a little vanilla and if your daring a little rum.
    put out a big bowl of whipped cream (or have 2-3 smaller ones if it is very hot)
    and then slice pound cake and put it on a platter.
    It makes a big splash of color and it's always a favorite.
    one case of strawberries, 2 quarts of cream and 4-5 loaves of thinly sliced pound cakes serves 100-150 people.

    Pastel sugar cookies would also be a nice addition. you could ice them or dip them in colored sugar before baking.:chef:
