Sorry guys I just need to vent!

Today the wonderful village of North Riverside hired a tree service company to trim the trees and here is what my view looks like now out of my window.

Before

and After:

I really feel like they brought the value of our home down. We had such a nice curb appeal with the tree and it was my morning ritual to have my coffee in the living room and look out at the tree and the birds.

Oh well.

That's your tax dollars hard at work for you!

You'll just have to get a ferrari or lamborghini and park that in front, then you won't notice the practically bare tree as much.

I thought Riverside was full of shanties with dirt bikes and drunk middle school girls in the front yard. I guess thats just in my dreams. -O.C.

They ruined your tree!  I'd be upset too if the city did that to my property.

Nicko, I find it hard to believe that this chop job was done by professionals!  I'm furious on your behalf.  If it were me, I would get on down to the office of whatever idiot is in charge and show him the before and after.  I would also find out the name of this (so-called) tree service company and confront them.  I could see them taking out the ends of the branches --- the outside 5 or so feet---, especially if they interfere with power lines or pose a danger of breaking in high winds.  But this butchering has actually weakened the tree, so that the ends of the branches (which is what should have been removed) now have no supporting balance from the limbs that were cut.  In addition (and very disturbing), they did not apply any top dressing to the wounds.

Let me at 'em...grrrrr

I'll disagree with AG on weakening the tree. They opened up the interior, removed cross branches, evened out the from. Cuts are clean, respect the joint and didn't tear. All good things and looks like a pro job.  Most trees don't need a dressed cut.

And from the looks of things, the tree is on city property out there on the parking strip. So they have some interest in keeping the road open and it looks like they included some sidewalk clearance in the big cut facing the house.

Granted, it looks like a bad haircut. But it will probably look much better in than it did before in a year or two.

At least until Edward Chainsawhands comes by again.

It looked beautiful before - Unless it was interferring with power/cable lines, passing traffic (like high trucks/buses)  or pedestrians - then why do it?

Grace - I agree with you in that they should have taken the ends of the branches to promote heavier and more abundant flowering next year.

Nicko - maybe you'll have to to take your morning coffee break looking out another windowumtil the tree recovers.  Or put on your stealth gear and go out in the wee hours and trim the ends of the branches right back so it gets even thicker blooms next year - you'll have to put a silencer on your chainsaw though /img/vbsmilies/smilies/wink.gif

My thoughts when I saw the before/after pics are that maybe despite this temporary setback , that this tree will grow back to not what it was before but to something more in desired characteristics, healthier, bigger, fuller blossoms, the tree that everyone will marvel over.

Some of the apple trees on the orchard where I grew up  looked sad after they were pruned and had the " Edward Scissorhands " effect done to them. But some of those trees grew back to be more beautiful than what they were before. Nature has a wonderful way of taking care of herself even when others interfere.

I know....it does not help or change the look nor how mad it made you feel.
