I live in Atlanta and I am interested in baking and pastry program. The only two choices left for me is either LCB or AI. Any thoughts about these two schools will be appreciated?

In addition to my initial post, I need to get a certificate so I can work in a pastry field in my country. I agree that I will earn more skill and knowledge by working in real industry but my case is different so I would appreciate if any one can suggest which school is better. thank you.

Are there any community college programs nearby?

Yes, there are, but most of the community colleges offer only culinary program in general. They do not offer a certificate program in baking and pastry.

I'm currently going to LCB ATL for their culinary certificate prog. I already have 3 yrs of fine dining experience going into the program and I am about to be done with their first rotation (6 weeks) in their 12 month program which breaks down into 9 months of kitchen practice and 3 month externship. If you're doing it for the piece of paper, then go for it, get it out the way and learn in the industry. Personally, they FLY through the material, but at least you get your NEHA(servsafe) certificate as well as your ACF accreditation.

Learn and take as much as you can get. But practice at home and get real world experience under a good chef. That'll make all the difference in the world.

    by the way 12 months = $20K.

Thanks for your thought to my concern.  I will probably choose LCB over AI.  The main reason is the cost of program.  At LCB, it is $19,500 net for a certificate vs. at AI, it is about $25,000 plus, and it will take me more than a year to finish the program at AI.
