Inspired by culture and history, I can’t help but wonder about the origins of things. My curiosity about foods and traditions from around the world get me to find, cook, and research all about them... guiding me to attempt new things.

I use quality whole foods (leaning more towards seasonal and local goods), and cooking in non-traditional and traditional ways. I honestly believe the attitude you have when you cook goes into what you make. When I cook for others I have a peaceful mindset, and it becomes a meditative process. I think about the flavors, what the guests might like, the colors, how everything is coming together, the order of things, presentation... but none of this is panicked. I absolutely love it! While I was getting my BFA in Sculpture + Extended Media I found myself cooking when I wasn't in the studio. But the artist in me never stops; inherently cooking became an art for me. This is also the time when I started my food blog aptly named "Katharina's Food Adventures". I'm also a culture and lifestyle editor for the first independent style magazine for iPads.

I've been cooking for many years, but I really delved into it during my college years. However, I've been exposed to and exploring food and cooking methods since I can remember. Proudly self-taught, but I have cooked with and learned from people I look up to--especially my grandmother who taught me how to do things the old-fashioned way. I got into being a personal chef when I moved to NYC and joined a startup called Kitchensurfing. Then I stumbled upon another startup called Mealku where home cooks can prepare food and share it with other members in the co-op--it's a give and take setup right now. I recently relocated back to South Florida though... the place I've lived the longest. I'm originally from Germany, grew up in a multi-cultural family, speak three languages, and travel a lot... so sometimes I don't know what someone means when they ask me where I'm from!

I recently finished my studies to become a Holistic Health Coach, which involves the various parts of our lives (the "circle of life")... I support people to learn how to feel whole again--and thrive. With that, I've taken my passion for cooking and have integrated my holistic health practitioners certification with my food business: where I serve as a personal chef, recipe developer (collaborating with brands such as Perricone MD--love collaborating!), cooking classes, featured publisher, along with some other consulting services. I've also had the pleasure of cooking with ingredients from my parents' garden, which has been featured on ApartmentTherapy as "Katharina's Food Revolution". It has over 150 varieties of heirloom and exotic plants. My dad has taught me how to grow organically using methods that have been passed down over generations. With that I take great pleasure in picking edibles ripened on vines (and trees), and heading to the kitchen to prepare something fresh and flavorful. It's brought my creativity and admiration of food to a more profound level.

Cooking is a great part of my life, and it can mean various things from survival to pleasure. It's endlessly fascinating, and I think it's neat that a cook's nuances can be passed on through feeding others.

Looking forward to being apart of this community :D
