I own and operate a catering business in Atlanta (10 years), I am being recruited by a local grocer to provide in store cooking demonstrations for my created recipes.  I have a couple of questions....

    1)  How much does one charge for recipe development?  Nothing elaborate as I will be catering to novice at home cooks, that typically dont know what they will cook for dinner that night...

    2) What cost should I charge the grocer for setting up, demonstrating the recipe to customers?

I believe that @Brandon ODell, a member here does this from time to time, send him a pm or wait for a response.

I do have several chefs that do this. We've done demos both as a contractor for another service and on our own. The company we contract through charges $50 per hour. They pay us $33 per hour. The extra $17 per hour is their markup to pay other chefs to develop the recipes and coordinate the chefs around the country. They contract out with chefs in about 50 stores in different parts of the country.

When I do demos separate from the contract company, I charge our hourly rate which is $37 on weekdays and $49 on evenings and weekends. We also bill at this rate for any time spent on recipe development, planning and administration, which normally isn't more than an hour per occurrence.

What you charge has to be competitive for your market. If I were on the East or West coast, or in any city with a higher cost of living, our rate would be higher.
