I think I'll be able to attend the Wine & Food Celebration to benefit Ozarks Public Television this Sunday. To top it off, it's being hosted by the Brown Derby International Wine Center, one of the top 10 in the country, and over 65 restaurants will be catering.

I'll bring a pen and paper if anyone has anything specific they are looking for....and/or are curious about....

For the price of a bottle of wine, I'll get to eat, drink, be merry, and support a good cause. What more could I ask for? (oh yeah, warmer weather, snowed here today)

Nope it means cold toes! Springfield is where Brown Derby is holding the dinner?
Is it full? if not would you post more info please.
How big is Springfield? I didn't realize it could support 65 caterers/restaurants.
St. Louis is so far to the East that I rarely get news that goes west of Columbia...sometimes I get info about Lidias
apparently their chef is buying as much local produce as he can get his hands on....

It's not a dinner, it's a "Wine & Food Celebration".

It is this Sunday from 2-5pm at the University Plaza Convention Center. Tickets are $25 in advance. I was wrong numerically in my above post (perhaps because my eyes are bigger than my plate!) I just dug the flyer out....

Springfield, MO is the third largest city in Missouri.

You really should make a trip to Springfield sometime. There are some excellent restaurants here, at least four that serve sushi (if that gives you any idea) - one of them, the first non-coastal place in the midwest I've ever liked it. I'm very particular about the freshness of the seafood I eat. And two Thai restaurants, one of them voted #1 restaurant in Springfield.

Cashew chicken was invented here. If you've never had Springfield cashew chicken, you've never had the REAL cashew chicken. Yours in St. Louis are totally different. (One of my best college friends grew up there and lives there now.)

Population? In the city probably about 150,000. Probably over 200,000 in surrounding towns. (Many people commute.)
Populations are booming in suburan counties around Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Indianapolis, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Washington, D.C., New York, and Springfield, Missouri. Springfields neighbor counties, Christian and Stone, respectively rank 31st and 38th in the nation in their rates of growth in the 1990s.

Bass Pro is headquartered here. I believe they are building the largest fresh water aquarium in the country to be completed within the next couple of years.

Brown Derby International Wine Center:
They actually have VERY impressive selection of gourmet food, from veal stock, to truffle oil, to parmigiano reggiano.
(If you ever go there, I can tell you who to talk to.)

I don't know exactly how many restaurants there are in Springfield. I do know that they are always packed on weekends. People love to eat out.

Yep it does....thank you for spending the time illuminating me. I could have sworn Bass Pro was near Branson....
So are we going to be able to fish in this aquarium?

Brown Derby is in St. Louis also, I've been getting their catalogs for a couple of years now, the only thing is they want you to buy a whole product not parts.......ie a whole proscuitto ham. BUT I only want 4 ozs. please. Great wine selection, super prices wonderful staff and they carry Mo wines....
alot of them. And I can go in and say Glenn I made white bean soup with chicken stock and sage what wine should I serve......and it's always wonderful!

We have pretty good sushi here....but I weinie out and do veg or cooked....parasites are an ugly thing and I've had the experience from a long ago Mexican trip.

That's too bad shroomgirl. Amazing how one bad experience can affect a lifetime isn't it?

Springfield is 3 hours away from you. You can get your 4 ozs. of proscuitto ham at this store. There is actually a great little Italian market that has the freshest mozzerella and proscuitto I've had. Very tasty. They also had a dried version of proscuitto called "copa"? I believe it was. Very good for the tastebuds as well.

I don't think we'll be able to fish in the aquarium. I do believe we'll be able to learn a lot. It's in cooperation with state wildlife officials, to educate the public. Last I heard it was $11 a person for admission.

I'm sure all of you have been to similar events. This is only my second one and I'm sure this will be much better than the first one I went to in Pittsburg KS.

OH my gosh....my ex husband's family is from Pittsburgh KS....is this world small or what.

Volpi is on "the Hill" in St. Louis check and see if that is not the brand of Italian meats at your store. They are one of the best in the country....and right here YES!

$11 that's more than the Aquarium in New Orleans. It's been so long since I've been to the Monterrey Bay Aquarium, that's one of my favorite.....bat rays to pet and they are sweet creatures.
