I have been a line cook for two years and decided to move from northern california to los angeles for the art institute program and found that the program is completely flawed. It cost $50000 for the associates program but you arent even paying for the name because AI is not a well recognized program because because they offer so many other degrees that have nothing to do with the hospitality industry. I have decided to work for a year and then go to Ferrandi in Paris for a year where I will do five months in class and 6 months internship. for less than $50000. So from my point of view go work for a few months if you still want to embark on this journey go to a CC if you want to be local or go travel abroad.

    Good Luck!!!

La Cordon Bleu's are known to be decent schools, why don't you schedule a look around the school and see how you feel about it - that's the only way you'll really know if it's a good fit for you.

    Good Luck!

The "Best school in America" is widely considered to be the CIA in Hyde Park, NY. But that doesn't make it the best school for you.

There are too many questions only you can answer.

Are you able or willing to move?

How much debt can you afford or want?

What do you hope to gain from school?

Best of luck in your search.

The CIA in Hyde Park is known as the best school in America. You will have to decide if that is the best school for you. If your looking for a school near you, Johnson & Wales University has a campus in North Miami. Both schools are very expensive but well known. If your not wanting to come out of school with outrageous debt then The Everglades Club in Palm Beach has an excellent Apprenticeship program for people who have not gone to culinary school. It won't cost you a dime you will get paid and housing provided during the season. It's a private club or country club that is extremely exclusive and has some extremely talented chefs.

PM me if you want more info on JWU or the apprenticeship program. Good luck in your search!

I once worked in the Everglades Club. I did all the meat cutting there.

It is better then any school The Chef is from the Greenbriar Hotel In Virginia  which was a top shelf operation. If you can get in there it would be great. They also have living accomedations. available
