How often do I turn meat when braising?

    How often do I turn meat when braising?

    One or three times is all you need.

    Once for me. More only if I have a look and the not-submerged part looks like it's drying.

    Why not? Let's say your total braising time is 4 hours, it would make sense to turn once after 1 hour and once more after 3 hours. No? Anyway I don't usually count that kind of things. Just look, determine if it needs turning, and turn if it does.

    How many sides does it have?   Turn till the whole thing is uniformly brown.

    It has either two sides or many sides.  But most times the other sides don't count.  I mean, if it's round the liquid still comes up half way.

    I'm couldn't resist this when I saw the post by @kuan and then the others, it just popped in my mind.....Scary thing is I haven't yet had my Friday evening cocktail(s). =)

    Turn once during quarter moon, twice for half moon, thrice during full moon,

    and never turn during either solar nor lunar eclipse. 

    I turn a slab-o-meat like a brisket once about mid way, then baste as need to keep from 

    drying out. On the other hand (usually my left),  there are times when that slight

    "crust" on top is appealing.

    Favorite sentence of the week: 

     "Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three."  /img/vbsmilies/smilies/lol.gif

    I turn the meat once....

    Twice if the non-submerged part starts to dry out.
