How many calories and carbs are in cooked black bean water

    I am needing to count calories and I have no idea how many calories  and  carbs are in the left over water from cooking black beans. I cooked them in plain water with out soaking them first. The information for canned beans is online but I do not think it is the same. Please help.

    All weights are in grams.  BBW = black bean water

    Record the weight of an empty glass vessel that'll will contain the BBW.  This is your TARE WEIGHT.

    Record its weight in grams.

    Allow the BBW to evaporate.  What remains are the carbs.

    Record the weight of the vessel plus its contents.  That's the combined weight of the carbs plus vessel, the TOTAL WEIGHT.

    From your total weight subtract the tare weight.  The remainder is the weight of the residual carbs and they don't evaporate as far as I know.

    Multiply that remainder by 4 cal/g giving the total calories.

    Disclaimer:  this measurement process assumes that when the liquid evaporates, what's left behind are all the carbs but I could be wrong.  I just don't see how they could evaporate.

    Unless you measure it out as above, it's simply too variable. You'd have to use the exact same amount of dry beans and water as whoever measured it out. And when people cook beans, they're not that precise.

    Agreed.  Then the volume of liquid would need to be brought into the equation.  Something I'm not willing to do.  But all it would require is to note at the outset the volume of black bean water.

    I think you should just estimate it at vegetable stock and move on.
