    Hello Everyone!

I opened a restaurant last July, things are going well. We just got our beer and wine license and I am putting together a happy hour menu. After putting the regular menu together, I feel as though I am out of ideas. I have been looking around as to what is popular and what would fit our concept. We recently fired our kitchen manager, so I am it in the creative department. We are an American breakfast/lunch restaurant, working on dinner. American style. Anyone have any ideas? They would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

Bacon(kind of over used), crackers, sausage and cheese plates, homemade chips with various seasoning salts(could showcase your house seasoning blends), rib tips...

    There's the classics...

    Beef sliders

Pulled pork sliders with cole slaw

Deep fried anything (such as fish & chips)

    Chicken wings or wing lollipops

    Salmon tartare

Fried breaded chicken fingers with aioli

Then you can look at other countries for inspiration...

    Quiche with mixed greens

Puffed pastry with just about anything (such as a sausage wrapped in puff pastry served with mustard dipping sauce)

    Sandwiches

    Raw Eggrolls/Fried Spring rolls

    Tacos/Quesadillas/Sopes

Pakoras with mint chutney & spicy dipping sauce

    Shrimp & Veggie Tempura

I like "small plates" for Happy Hour with beer or wine

maybe some cold as well as hot offerings?

the ladies like 'chip & dip', crunchy & salty,

perhaps hummus and fresh pita chips (cold plate)

or artichoke-spinach dip with fresh thin bread sticks (hot plates)

it would also depend upon where you are too?

    is fresh fish/seafood available?

maybe you could share a bit more information/backstory ?

    I like small plates, too.

Or things that can be shared.

I don't like bar food, though.

A few things that I've enjoyed at various places lately or made to take to get-togethers:

    Sausage sampler with mustards

    Charcuterie with various homemade pickles

    Cheese plate with roasted grapes

Flat bread "pizzas" with various toppings

    Mini pot pies

    Seasonal blasted/ roasted vegetables

    Belgian style fries with aioli

    Mussels

Mini ground pork and kimchi pancakes with ponzu dipping sauce

Cochinita pibil (Mexican pulled pork) soft tacos with pickled onions

Any kind of small, savory, stuffed pastry--empanadas, pupusas, pasties, Middle-eastern spinach or meat pies

Various dips and spreads with pita triangles

Indeed.  I might have to actually try doing something like that, wondering which would fare better in the frying, fresh cabbage or sauerkraut?

Either/or.  I vote for drained sauerkraut.

    Or...

    Reuben potato skins

    Reuben Quesadillas w Dijon Mustard.

    Now I want a Reuben!

There was a little deli here in SLC that had a GREAT reuben.  Closed up about 2 years ago.  Drat. The dressing they used was just *perfect*

I hate when that happens.  Maybe you could try to duplicate it at home.  Oh, I think coleslaw would work too.

Thank you everyone for your posts! Rueben eggroll does sound amazing. I will need to look for a recipe for that. Does anyone know one?
