I have a catering business based in Melbourne. I have about 13 years experience in restaurants, major events like Grand Prix, location launches, weddings, school camps. Part of catering is logistics, event management and equipment hire. Clearly I may not be able to help you with US specific information, but I'll do my best.:chef:

Another welcome from the British side of the world!

I'm off to Australia at the end of February for a couple of months... I'll be visiting Sydney, Canberra and other areas of NSW - as well as Melbourne and Adelaide. I'm so looking forward to visting favourite restaurants again, like Doyle's in Sydney - and discovering new ones.

There are heaps that are excellent. Tetsuay's in sydney is a must. Darly St Thai also in Sydney.
In Canberra, an area called "Manuka" has all the better ones, who's names I can't recall. In fact I'll be in Canberra end of Feb too.

Ahh, and Melbourne, everything from cheap Chinese, to trout in a smoking glass. Attica (book ahead), Movida (book also), Anáda, The Deanery, Circa, Pacific House, Oriental Spirit Thai....

I've been watching Australia's version of the British show 'Masterchef' - not a patch on the original and whilst the Aussie professionals are amazing - the contestants are pretty average! I suspect a young girl called Julia will win it - and I just hope it's not the lad called Sam or the whiny, crying-on-cue girl!

Please don't tell me if I'm correct, though - I've threatened my Aussie friends/rellies with death if they tell me the result:chef:

I promise not to spoil the fun for you. My problem isn't with the winner, more the judges, specifically Matt Preston.

Should you not recognise the name, he's the obese, arrogant, pretentious twat who carries no culinary knowledge whatsoever, except for his uncanny ability to stuff all 9 courses of a degustation menu for two, down his increasingly lard lined esophagus.

My sister tells me that both he and the chef called Gary are British born, gawd help us!

Pretentiousness seems to be Mr Preston's main vice - I mean, c'mon... wearing ascots in Australia?:eek:
