Welcome, Aloha.  I think that the folks here at Chef Talk could be terrific guides through the maze of getting you to your goal.  With over 40,000 members and 10 + years on the 'net, you're in great company.  It's sharing, chatting, interacting all in the name of food.  Some of us Home Experts have plenty to bring to the table, I think anyway.  A note, the 3 Pro forums are just that, for the Pros, we are asked not to post there.  If you have any questions in regards to the site, please PM one of us Mods, we can help.  Hope to see you here more often!

Welcome, do some research here culinary school is not always the right path. Many great chefs don't step foot in a school.

    Hey Rockie,

agree to an extent with Nicko. It depends on the path you choose for yourself. E.g., If you choose to explore corporate, hotels, restaurant chains, cruise ships etc., a formal education may be requisite to even applying for any, position.

Open your own place, catering, private chef or working in one of the later may be of use for you to gain real world, hands on experience.

Welcome and best to you in your quest!

    Cheers!

Welcome to you as well Detrigo.

You may want to take a look at the Pastry forums as well as the Professional Chefs forum.  Loads of help there!
