Hello all! I need some serious help!!

Quick background about myself. I'm 31years old and brand spanking new to cooking. Although I have been cooking this past year on cast iron skillets and woks, I have no background in cooking. Today I got a job as a line cook. I need some advice, like do I need to buy my own knives? Any tips for those who have never done this? I read on here to get a small notebook to take notes of the mice an place. I don't even know what that means but I gather its just how your station is set up.
