Hard Coockies?

I'm trying to make some hard crunchy cookies out of these ingredients (These are some of the ingredients of home made cookies I have seen once, and I'm trying to make my own version)-

Oat Flour, Rolled Oats, Honey, Tapioca Starch, Unsalted Peanut Butter, Natural Pumpkin, Canola Oil,Cream of Tartar & Baking Soda.

I don't care about the taste at the moment, my goal is to get a consistent hard and crunchy long lasting cookies.

Can anyone help out with instructions and quantities?

I am total armature BTW...

You need to contact my MIL who makes the hardest cookies ever and she doesn't worry about the taste either! :lol:

Ddg, try checking out a recipe that exists which includes the ingredients you've listed.

Is this a gluten-free recipe? (I'm never sure if oats are off the menu for people who are gluten intolerant.)

I'm trying to make cookies for for some dogs im working with, so it has to be hard and the ingredients selection should be healthy for dogs.

The cookies I have found online were ended up too soft... from the other hand, these ingredients are of a hard home made cookie I have seen around.

If anyone can help out here! :peace:

cookies for dogs are a special category. I don;t think they should be sweet, but i'm not sure. I think one recipe i saw called for meat broth in them! Anyway, i think pumpkin and honey are two ingredients that make cookies soft. I'm not sure, but i would guess that.
If anything, cook them at a low heat for a very long time. That way they dry out before they burn and would be dry.
why don;t you look for other recipes specifically for dogs?

Crispy cookies need sugar crystals; these are formed when they melt and recrystallise. Since in your recipe you're using honey; then no sugar crystals will ever form. Change your honey for WHITE sugar (I would recommend castor sugar as to absorb as little water as possible) and you'll have a consistent recipe for success.

Make sure your oats are instant oats- as they will absorb alot of the liquid- its important to pre-soak them- instant oats are no less healthier but are rolled to a point where than can absorb liquid in their center almost immediately.

And pre-cook your pumpkin- i would recommend roasting until soft and slightly carimelised. (Dogs love the scent from the browning reactions- i have two!)

Try this for basic proportions and multiply as needed...:

100g flour and starch (combined at 70/30)/38g water/30g eggs/50g oil/100g sugar/30g oats/30g pumpkin/5g baking powder (or cream of tartar and baking soda- same thing)

...and see how you get on.

Dog cookies - ok, here's a recipe I've used:

Mix together:
1 egg
1 T soy sauce
1 T honey
1 T flour
1 T oil

2 C uncooked oatmeal
1 C (approx) beef broth
Mix together until "soupy". Set aside for 30-45 minutes.

Put spoon-size (like cookies) drops on ungreased cookie sheet. Let set 10 minutes. Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 30-45 minutes. Cool on rack for a day (or at least over night). NOTE: Do NOT store in an airtight container, a brown paper bag works best.
