Thanks everybody. Where to begin.... My name is Lafaye and I am 43 years old. My husband Terry and I are both chefs and have worked in the food serviceindustry all of our adult lives. We LOVE food. So much you can do and so many people to make happy by doing this type of work.  We garden and grow much of our own food. We do volunteer work to help out people. On Christmas day we host a huge dinner for 650+ people. (which is a lot for the area we live). We love good music and listen to almost any thing that there is talent. Mostly the Grateful Dead, but we are versatile.
Once again, Thanks for your well wishes. I am planning to schedule a meeting with the health inspector on Tuesday to see what all we need to do before we can start our climb to the great world of restaurant ownership.
Hope all is well in your world. Happy Day everybody.
    Peace

Welcome, welcome, welcome Lafaye. I think it is awesome that you and your hubby not only love to cook, but grow your own. I believe great food is in the heart and the way to the heart. I volunteer at the salvation army feeding the unfortunate and I am very grateful to help.. Good luck with your new restaurant, what kind is it gonna be? Two questions, what time is Christmas dinner, and how do I get there!!!!!  /img/vbsmilies/smilies/biggrin.gif

We are gonna have a diner. It is a really cool little place all shiny and has red booths and bar chairs. Simple diner food except for specials. Most stuff from scratch.
We always do our Christmas thing on Christmas day cause it sux tio be alone hungry broke and no toys for the kids especially on Christmas so, we have Christmas with everybody that wants to come. It's a lot of fun and a whole lot of work but, it is so worth it to make other people happy. Makes you feel happy too.
The first time my husband put on a chef jacket was at St. Pete yacht club. Many years ago. My jackets usually stay hanging up collocting dust. I'm more of a tye die t shirt kinda chef.

we live in Cleveland, Ga. in the mtns. We usually rent the dining hall at the local college. This year we are gonna have to find a bigger space though. Last Christmas people were having tto go outside to eat. They didn't mind though. We have so many people that come every year that we have really become a big family. It's not like there is a difference in any of the people that come whether they have or don't have. We all socialize and get along and help each other. Really inspiring.

    Here you go, Sharon: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Cleve...code_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CAsQ8gEwAA

It's about 78 miles northwest of Atlanta, near the North Carolina border. Must be beautful country!

Lafaye, I always thought a diner like you're starting would be a local hangout and lots of fun (yes, work too) to have. I thought for about 10 minutes that I might start one in a vacant space in a strip mall owned by a family member. Two food joints have failed there, but I bet if there were for or five really, really good homestyle dishes and the best pie around, it couldn't miss. I'm not in good enough health to do something like that, but I can dream about it....
