This year, as every year, i bought a parsley plant, and so far every year it has been eaten by something that seems to just come and cut off the stems just as i would - there is never any left after a couple of weeks.

I keep it in a pot on my terrace, in a side of the terrace that has a little less sun (maybe instead of from 10AM to 8PM like the rest of the terrace in the summer, it's got sun maybe till 4 or 5.  It's very hot for three or four months.

I have snails (used to have slugs, now they all got shells! rather than a metamorphosis, i presume the shelled ones took over) and they're pretty big (walnut sized) and all sorts of bugs i presume - some greyish short ones the size of sunflower seeds, with what looks like many legs, which live in the soil itself, and who knows what else.

SOMEONE out there loves parsley as much as i do.

Anyone know what i can do, apart from poison it?

In NY I had parsley come up through the snow. Here in Florida sun and heat helps kill it.

What your parlsey is doing ,is attracting BUTTERFLYS and as a gift to you they do lay their eggs on your parsley.Once the eggs had hatched ,the carterpillars eat your parsley and you are left with only the parsley stems to look at. There is nothing you can do if you find  the caterpillars having a party.Once you spot them it is usually too late since there is never just one carterpillar but most of the time there are 6 or more and within a couple of hours your parsley leaves are gone.

I now have to keep my parley plants in pots inside my pool enclosure .

Thanks, Berndy, i never noticed caterpillars on the terrace but that doesn't mean they weren't there.  But what if i put a screen over them or something - or is there something that chases away butterflies?

You have to put your screen over some kind  of frame to keep a space between the sreen and the parsley .otherwise the butterflies will lay their eggs though the screen directly on the parsley leaves.
