Hello everyone,

I am hardly much of a chef but I am always out looking for new and interesting meals to serve to my family.  I spend a great deal of time in my kitchen so if chef can be earned through a process of cooking meal after meal rather than only through going to a culinary school then I guess I qualify.  Some of my best recipes are things that I just threw together out of what I could dig out of the pantry.  Unfortunately, I can seldom repeat those meals for not having written down exactly what I was using.  anyone else have that problem?

Anyway, I just wanted to pop in and say hi.  You may see me lurking around a lot.  I don't know if I will have much to contribute but I hope to learn a lot!

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to ChefTalk.

There has been much discussion about what really makes a chef a Chef....   I think that you, like me could only be considered an enthusiastic amateur - we have never worked in a commercial kitchen, but we love to cook!  We have all levels of expertise among our membership, from those just starting out on their culinary adventures to masterchefs - and all stages in between.  The members are scattered around the globe - and that makes for sometimes interesting discussions -for instance what Americans call an eggplant, we in the UK call an aubergine (because much British cookery was influenced by the french) - our courgette is your zuchinni!   ALL are equally welcome here!

Please feel free to join in on threads you find interesting or start your own.  The professional fora here are 'read-only' to us non-professionals, but they make interesting reading.

I hope you will participate here, everyone is very friendly.

Hey, KCMoody, welcome to Cheftalk.

Where in the Bluegrass are you located? There are a few of us in the Cheftalk roles. I'm from outside Richmond, for instance.

As far as contributing goes, everybody has something to throw into the pot. That's one of the many things that makes this community so nice; we all learn from each other. So don't hesitate to join in.
