As an addict to HBO's series "Six Feet Under", I've noticed that quite a number of scenes revolve around the dinner table. Also, that these scenes include some very moving blessings before the meal.
Did anyone see it last night? The grace started something like this:

Thank you for this food, when too many live in hunger.
May we have faith in a world where too many live in fear....

.., it has a few more lines, but I cannot recall them. I found it very moving.
Also, the russian boyfriend said a beautiful grace (though long) in one of the opening episodes.

Do any of you say grace before eating? Only at home or in a restaurant too?
    Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner?
I'm interested in this aspect of culture as related to eating?
    Thoughts?

PS. I'm a fairly non-practicing, but somewhat faithful person who is interested in cultural/religious similarities-not those things that divide us as humans.

I give thanks to God for each meal. My father told me many stories of what it was like growing up in Greece when the Germans came and I guess those stories have always made me grateful for each and every meal I receive. Sometimes it is so easy to take a meal for granted in the United States with the abundance of food we have here.

I don't say an official "grace" but am very grateful for our abundance of food. I have a friend in seminary school and he says grace for us when he visits.

I am also a Six Feet Under fan...incredible show. I can't believe the normalcy with which they portray the gay lifestyle (as it pertains to couples mentality, not so much the partying, etc.). This show was conceived by a genius - what a concept - life around a funeral home.

My brother's family says grace before eating a meal, he'll ask one of the people around the table to say it....When one of his children 17mo-17 yrs (5) says grace it is next to impossible to understand them, it's fast.....but includes safety blessing for those traveling/or going through difficult experiences.
