First time poster, short time lurker...

I have a restaurant in NM.

It's my fourth summer losing my battle with flies. Pest companies don't have any solutions. They love my patio, they love the restaurant, and of course, they love my kitchen.

Anybody have any great remedies?

Thanks

J

I have a friend in pest control. He says bugs like to land, so if you can locate a fan near your doors, they don't like fighting the turbulance and are more likely to stay outside. I put fly paper outside, near the door and dirty towel bin. They get stuck before they can get in. For your patio, take 20 oz. drink bottles, cut the top off where the bottle widens out, put the top back on upside-down (like a funnel). Put some hamburger, honey, whatever draws flies in the  bottom of the bottle. The flies go in for the bait and can't figure out how to get back out. Works for bees too. In spite of all this (plus I have an ulta violet unit with a sheet of sticky bug paper) I still have to do the fly-swatter exterminator thing every day before I open. The best bug catcher I have is the steam table. I always find a bunch of dead bugs in the water, so I leave the water in over night to drown bugs, drain and clean it when I come in. You can't win, you can just try to maintain a liveable level.

Make sure you have screen doors, no holes and keep them closed. No garbage cans in kitchen without lids. Dishwashing area clean. No dirty towls or aprons thrown in kitchen, put them  outside protected from rain .No open bottle or jars . No uncovered foods laying out.

If possible an air curtain at back door. Keep A/C low, they hate cold enviorments.
