    i guess i will start this one out, first i'd like to thank my parents, the bums and lowlifes who bought us beer when we were underaged,,,,,,,,, im sorry, im getting alittle vaclempt.... now that thats over i will begin by saying that discrimination is a horrible thing i don't want to hurt the feilings of all the wonderful liquors out there jack daniels single barrel,patron silver,tanqerey,johnny waker blue, you guys all have a special place in my heart. now that said,,,,,,, lets begin

    every day fridge filler beer--- michelob ultra lite(gotta watch my cheflike figure:chef:
    - rolling rock
    - labats blue
    on tap at the pub and i gotta spend some money
    Guinnes(my lord and ruler)
    -Murpheys irish stout
    -amber bock
    -Warshteiner
    -Bass pale mmmmmmmmmmmm
    -newcastle
    -killians red
    -anchor steam
    -st pauli girl
    -sapporo
    -abita amber or golden(fantastic local beer)
    these are my mainstays, a beer for every mood. i also like to forrage arround the import beer stores when the budget allows and buy assorted six packs of strange and delicious brews. next week an indepth look at how wine keeps you young and virile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!! go shiraz

    1/ Molson Canadian
    2/ Anything else by Molson
    3/ Guiness (mothers milk)
    4/ Corona (cause my girlfriend buys it and when I am out, hers is fair game):D
    5/Tuborg
    6/ Heineken
    7/ Keiths Pale Ale (on tap)

    Beer History

    Beer has refreshed the thirst of hundreds of millions of people throughout the world for thousands of years.

    6000-year-old Ancient Sumerian clay tablets provide brewing’s earliest official record, though it is likely beer was first enjoyed in Neolithic times, when cereal harvesting began.

    Early man came to call beer liquid bread, as it was nutritious, thirst quenching and because it contained alcohol it didn’t easily deteriorate.

    At least 3,000 years before the Christian era, an intoxicating liquor manufactured from grains was known in Egypt. Beer, or zythum was used to honour the dead, and Osiris was the patron deity of brewers.

    At the same time in China people fermented the cereal millet to make tsiou, which was often used as an ancestral offering.

    Pliny the Roman historian records that a fermented drink made from corn and water was consumed regularly across Europe.

    In the first millennium AD, beer was sacred to the Celts, Germans and Scandinavians.

    The Celts made great strides in understanding the process of allowing cereal to germinate, which we call malting, and braces the Celt word for malting is the stem of the French word brasserie.

    And for nearly two thousand years monks in Europe have brewed beer, believing it was a more wholesome drink than water.

    Then the Canadians perfected it, as well as the twist off top. C=:)

    Here are a few of my favorite beers (won't even get into the other stuff) in no particular order:

    Guinness
    Mackeson's Stout
    Anything by Catamount in Vermont (no longer brewing I believe)
    Rolling Rock (when I am feeling cheap or out of money)
    Henieken (my go-to beer for hot days and no-brainer drinking)
    Newcastle
    Old Peculiar
    Celis White (no longer produced I believe)
    Abita Turbo Dog
    Haaker Pschor
    Sierra Nevada IPA
    Fuller's ESB
    Woodpecker or Blackthorn Cider
    Negro Modelo
    Dos Equis XXX
    The list could go on and on!!!!

    As for the history of beer, it just proves my theory that the drive to get intoxicated (alter one's mind) is as basic a drive as any other of humankind's base drives.

    I don't drink it often, and only developed a beginner's taste for it in the past few years. I tend to choose the heavier ones for flavor, especially bocks. If it's REALLY cold, a Miller Lite is okay. I had an Alsacian one that was very, very good, full-bodied. Capitol Brewery in Madison, WI and New Glarus brews are tasty. As you can see, specific brands or styles are still open to exploration for me, but I'm learning.

    Time was when my very favorite beer was...COLD!
    Better the bottle than the can; better the tap than the bottle. But I didn't turn anything down. Ive had beer in a lot of different countries.Worst...China, France,Tunisia
    Best...England,Ireland,Germany
    Ive done LaBatts,Old Milwaukee, Ortliebs, Old Frothing Slosh, Black Label,Iron City, Pearl, Oly,Chicago's Best(it wasn't), Rolling Rock, Hamm's, Gunther,National, and American. If it foamed up when you poured it, I'd drink it!
    Days gone by! Now, I limit myself to near beer, dark if it's available. Health is a precious thing.

    When I was in college in the '70s, there was a beer (or maybe it was a malt liquor) called Hoppin' Gator. It was tropical fruit flavored. Horrendous! We all had to try it ONCE.

    Was that due to an initiation or something? Yuck, poundin back horrible beer makes me sick just thinking about it.

    The worst I have tasted yet would have to be one out of western Canada called Steam Wistle. Has anyone tried this one yet??

    Worst beer?! Who cares?! After 6 you can't really taste them anyway!!!!!!:p :p :p :p

    Honestly, I haven't met a beer I couldn't drink. That doen't count beer that has been ruined by improper storage or things like that.

    Beers that I would rather not drink include:
    -Most Canadian Beers (sorry Hogan, but the hops they use are just to skunky for my tastes)
    -The majority of French Beers, though there are some good ones available.
    -Most beers from Asia & Japan (not counting sake). These beers are only really good when eating the food from the same countries
    -Peroni (an Italian beer)
    -As for the Americans: Oly, Rainer Beer, Miester Brau, Bush (in can), Milwaukee's Best, and a host of other insepid or otherwise nasty beers.

    Went to the RENNFEST yesterday. What a hoot. GREAT beer too! Soussweets you would of loved it, Celtic, Excalibur, Flavored Meads, women dressed in rennisance outfits. Turkey legs and peasant bread!

    Going back today for some more fun!

    Wanda and I hit the Ren Fest in Southern Wisconsin a couple of times during the summer. We go all out, dressing up, having a good time. Lots of cider is usually consumed, at least by me, leaving Wanda to drive home!:D

    This was the first time I ever heard of this celebration. I hear it goes all throughout the states as well and a great time is had by all. The meads and ciders are GREAT! The food was good too, where can you get a whole turkey leg for 4.00?? I wanted some of the cool clothes they had but they tend to be a bit expensive. 85.00 for a shirt, 185.00 for a vest, 65.00 for pants, 80.00 for a hat, YIKES! I think I will start making my own for next year.

    Hey Hogan, looks like a good time at the Ren. Fest.

    As far as my vote for the worst beer, it would be :


    NATIONAL BOHEMIAN, a.k.a. natty-bo. It is local to Baltimore, Md.

    Many fellow students drank this by the trunkload back in culinary school. If you could get past the first few, it did the job. I think it was something like 4 bucks a case!!:crazy:

    Hogan there seems to be a poular thread in the chefs choice tipple & I concur......GUINESS ( 2 s's soussweets).

    Rolling Rocks great & because its made with pure mountain springwater its hard to get hungover !!!

    BOURBON..mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

    We did one of those medieval things at Henry the 8ths original hunting lodge, I slipped the waitress a £20.00 & we had enough mead to sink a ship.

    Molsons not bad either.
