    Hi
i'm trying to make my own moulding chocolate and i know the recipe calls for corn syrup, however we don't have it here in the UK (unless u get it off ebay which i wouldn't trust ) someone said that corn syrup over here is just golden syrup. does anyone know if this is correct? if not is there anything else i can use in place?

    Thanks
    Sam x

Depends where you are based in the UK. I know that in London it is available in both Harrods and Selfridge's Food Halls. I've also seen bottles of it in small delicatessens even in the wilds of Cornwall!

You might have more luck looking for "glucose syrup". Glucose syrups can be made from any suitable starch source; in the US, it's corn, because we've got lots. In other places, wheat, potato, or rice starch is used. The end product is the same, if the DE (dextrose equivelant) is the same. You want 42 DE, give or take. (The higher the number, the sweeter the syrup is, and thinner. ) A friend who spent a couple years in the wilds of yorkshire said she bought it at the chemist.

I beg to differ... Corn syrup flavour, re. previous post. To me = America. I love it. I have a care package swop with a CT member. I get pecans and corn syrup for what she wants Scottish. Good deal.... Could catch on???

BTW I Agree, Golden syrup has, like corn syrup,a unique taste of it's own

Thanks for all the replies .
i've checked numerous shops in area big and small. Glucose syrup and rice syrup i can get without any trouble so if that would work then i shall have a go with that.
Who knows what the results will be (since first time doing usually buy ready made stuff),lol!!
    Thanks Again everyone :thumb:.

Karo syrup, which is the big US brand, is flavored with vanilla. They also do a dark version, which is flavored (and colored) with refiner's syrup (which is something like molasses). Many other brands are the same (though a number of them use artificial vanilla).
