Concerned about getting sued.

    :pI have been with this company for 2 years. I started as a executive sous chef in New York and then moved to south beach to be the chef de cuisine in a new restaurant of the same company.
    I just put in a month notice of resignation. I will be relocating 100 miles away. One of my junior sous chefs wants to leave to work with me. Through the grapevine I heard that the director of operations said that if I take him with me, he will sue me. Any suggestions. Any lawyer info? I'm confused.

    No. He decided after he found out I was leaving that he wanted to come with me

    Well I heard that they would sue md if he came to work with me. Just wondering what the legality issues are with this situation.

    Pretty much, anyone can sue anyone else for anything. Doesn't mean they will win. Also, doesn't sound like you've done anything wrong. I wouldn't worry...

    Assuming DOO really said it he is saying it without consulting the legal department. If he had consulted legal he would have been told to not make threats.

    If brought up again I would just laugh and say nothing.

    If it ever does proceed to court, just be honest: you left and someone you worked with applied at your new place, and you hired them (assuming it ends up that way).

    Then laugh a little more when it's all said and done.

    Make sure you don't get drawn into this immature persons drama, and don't do anything that will bite you later (i.e. no threats, etc.).

    I assume there is no employment contract. You did not ask him, he asked you so they can't do anything.

    I wouldn't be to concerned if I were you. He's just an idiot talking s***. Don't let him get to you. If I preoccupied myself with every idiot in my life saying terrible things, I'd be deep in insanity right now. In fact, I've been threatened that I'd be sued too... by a lawyer screaming "I'm a lawyer! I'm a lawyer! Ahhhhhh!" That's a long, funny story!

    most states have laws that permit employers to release a worker for any reason without any compensation.  I think theyre called "right to work laws". It allows them to fire anybody for no reason but it also gives us the right to leave for no reason and without notice.
