Classification: Bistro or Cafe?

    Hello,

    I'm joining the food industry by opening what is basically a gourmet soup and sandwich shop that also offers espresso drinks, wine, and beer. It's going to be a "order at the counter" type service. I'd like to call it a bistro, but would that be misleading since it won't be a full service restaurant?

    I think "bistro" does imply to the customer that it is a full service restaurant. "Cafe" could also, but that depends more on your market. In my area, people would walk in expecting full service, but I've seen other areas where there are many counter service "cafes".

    More importantly than the service expectation, your menu doesn't sound like a "bistro" menu. Soup and sandwiches say "deli". Maybe you should consider "Deli & Cafe".

    bistro makes it sound more classy XD
    make a blackboard outside ur restaurant for daily specials... make it look even more classy haha

    Depends on neigborhood and theme  and or image you want to generate. Cafe in Europe is a lot of coffee and pastry  or croussants and that type fare, where Bistro usually more foods are  featured.

    It sounds more like cafe than anything...Bistro is usually a casual dining area but here in the states it could range from casual to semi-fine dining and would infer that is a full service restaurant.... I wouldnt call it a deli unless you slice meat to sell or cold side orders sold by the pound. Maybe even consider "blah,blah,blah" beer&wine cafe
