If i want to make this does the cake bottom have to be baked first or with the cheese cake batter on top of the cake batter. Can you use store bought boxed cake mix, jiffy makes one layer cake mix.

Why not try it both ways? I would think baked first would be better being that the cheesecake batter would be heavier and tend to sink into the cake batter. But I don't bake enough to know one way or the other.
Of course, trying it both ways means you have two cakes to eat.

The famous NYC deli bakes it as a sheet, cuts a circle and puts the cream cheese filling on top before baking.

Funny that you mention Jiffy... generally very good product for the price. Especially the corn bread. :)

Apparently not; Juniors never had that problem. :)

... you should have enough info now...

I’d actually encourage you to use a Jiffy mix, as long as the custard is rich and made with best ingredients. It’s really all about the custard!
