Hello, I don't have too much of experience in cooking and baking, so I need your advise. What I do is 3d printing and I want to use it to make a gift - few highly detailed molds for chocolate and cake baking. I could only see silicone molds, but any of them weren't good enough to make some great looking food sculptures. I have possibility to make molds from ceramics, which would make them more solid then those made from silicone and could be divided in a few parts for more challenging shapes. So before I make those I would like to know your opinions, would this idea work with replacing silicone for ceramic? How are detailed chocolate sculptures made (cars, animals etc.)? Is it with use of silicone molds? I attach images of the sample 3d models of those molds (Batman and Einstein).

You certianly can use silicone for molding chocolate, but polycarbonate is a much better option. Detailed chocolate scupltures involve much more then just a mold, alot of those pieces have much ingenuity behind them on the part of the chocolatier. I think most chocolatiers wouldnt want to use a ceramic mold. I cant comment too much on the cakes, but I sort of have a hard time seeing all those subtle details coming through a cake, not to mention batmans pointy ears would bake much quicker then the rest of his face.

You are surely right about Batman, I didn't think of that, that's helpful. I saw some really great chocolate shapes like cars, animals etc. Could you tell me how are those made? It didn't seem right to me that silicone molds could do the work, because for more advanced shapes it would be impossible to take chocolate object out of the mold, because of that i was building my models divided, for example - for the Statue of Liberty it took me at least 7 different parts to imagine it being possible to take out, then I gave up.
