I take a regular American buttercream and use approximately half butter, half cream cheese, and add about a tablespoon or two of buttermilk powder to your powdered sugar (per 1/2 pound of butter/cream cheese). It adds more tang than cream cheese alone, which tends to make the icing more runny on its own unless you up the powdered sugar quite a bit, which in my opinion makes it cloyingly sweet.

I like to add some chopped pecans.

Yes!
I also toast them.
In fact I toast most of the nuts I use as soon as I get them home and then store in the freezer.
May need a quick turn in the oven after defrosting....
