I wish Huddler would stop adding unnecessary features and graphics and concentrate on getting the needed ones to work properly. Now the PM application doesn't work.

Been trying to reply to a PM for several hours, on and off. I compose the message, press the send message, and all that happens is that the screen jumps back to the top of the original message to me.

The list of applications and features that do not work properly (and which they haven't addressed) has gone beyond silly.

Pm uses the same buggy editor for PMs as for posting.  You'll usually have the best luck getting things to go by pressing F5 or clicking the Source button in the upper left corner of the editor area.

You can type in the Source editor (usually better behaved) or click Source again to return you to the default editor where it usually works this time.

If you have a mobile device, they default to the "basic editor" that is also better behaved  as they don't support the fancy default editor.

In all honesty, Phil, I don't understand half of what you said. I am not a technocrat. I just want things to work the way they're supposed to.

And the fact is, the send button worked perfectly well on PM replies until yesterday. It's a simple procedure. Or should be. I write my response in the text box where it says "reply." Press the send button. And, voila! My message is on its way to the addressee.

I have changed nothing in terms of settings or preferences. But now it doesn't work. Refreshing the page (isn't that what F5 does?) doesn't fix it. Closing down and starting over doesn't fix it.

So now, because the folks running the platform have somehow played around with it I'm supposed to jump through hoops to accomplish a simple task? I don't think so.

I have played around on numerous lists and forums through the years, supporrted by a dozen or more platforms, and have never run into the continual problems that crop up here (and which remain unaddressed despite complaints). And I fully understand why so many of our members have dropped away in frustration because Huddler doesn't seem to have any bug spray. Or just doesn't care.

I think the editor is crap. So do many of the other Huddler users on other forum

    We're stuck with it.

F5 is a key along the top edge of your keyboard. Pressing it causes the current web page to refresh, and usually tricks the editor into working.

The Source button tricks the editor in a similar way is all that I was saying.

Maybe it fools it on your computer, Phil. But I just tried it, and it doesn't change anything.

I notice there's a source button on the forums posting screen. But I couldn't even find one on the PM page.

So, adding it all up, among the functions not available to me all or some of the time (without jumping through hoops, that is)

    1. Replying to PMs.

    2. Clearing my PM file (the delete button doesn't work).

    3. Starting new threads.

    4. Editing my own posts.

    5. Using the Add Item to the books and products pages

And, of course, there's the continuing problem of links that don't go anywhere.

Ah, well. I reckon if it were easy everyone would do it.

What browser and what version are you using. The latest version of firefox, IE9 and Google Chrome beta all break the editor. I agree with Phil the editor is crap with a capital C

I'm using the same browser and version I've been using for years. Don't know for sure, but I believe it's IE8. And the PM reply button worked fine until earlier this week. The only way I've found to reply is to pretend I'm sending a new PM to the person. Which, in effects, means we don't actually have a reply function in the first place. Same can be said for all the functions we don't really have, or which only work intimittently.

I don't know editors from chopped liver. But I do know that I have never encountered these sorts of problems at any other site. And that the idea of having to go through two or three other steps in the hope the function button will then maybe work makes no sense at all. And the fact they can't fix these problems makes me think they aren't a whole lot more technically savvy than me.

When we first went to Huddler my initial reaction to the members who complained was that they were just being resistent to change. But more and more I understand why they were dissatisfied, and why so many of them have stopped posting as a result. I've almost reached that point myself.
