I've cooked beans and rice; rice and peas so many differenct ways, but I want something that is dangerous but good; exciting but has flavor; or a perfect dish for a party without looking like everybody else dish, I need help.

You could make mujaddara with just about any legume and grain (beans and rice, lentils and wheat, etc...).

Louisiana red beans and rice would be my pick.

When visiting the Carribean area, I had "Moros y Cristianos". A beautiful name for a very humble dish made of a mix of dark beans and rice.

I pity the person that judges beans by the can.  There is frioles refrito which goes well along with rice.  I love the taste of cannelini and garbonzo beans drizzled with olive oil or in a tomato sauce.  I love just plain ole rice and beans along with a chunk of bread and some butter.
