breakfast recipe

Dear all, I am new to the forum and just wanted to get some ideas on any easy to make (maybe like a 25 minute or less time) breakfast? I've always wanted to make some good food for my husband before he leaves for work. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks a lot for the replies.

Sorry to offer something so tragically basic, but omelet would be my suggestion.  Just about anything can be put in an omelet.  If you need something easier, beat a tablespoon of hot salsa into a couple of eggs and scramble.  It'll look rather nasty (I put them in a wrap with some cheddar) but tastes great.

Shred a large potato (with a cheese grater or food processor) and put it, in enough water to cover, in a dish in the microwave for about 3 minutes.  Meanwhile, coarse dice some onion, sweet pepper, breakfast sausage, (or mushrooms, or bacon, or whatever) and saute in a buttered pan on medium.  When any meat is cooked through and onions are translucent, add the drained - and patted dry with paper towel - potato shred.  Add herbs if you wish... basil, oregano, a touch of nutmeg, definitely salt & pepper... and continue cooking, stirring and flipping often, until potato is tender and lightly browned.   Beat one egg and stir into the mix.  Gather the mix together and allow the egg to bind it.  Flip it once if desired. When egg is cooked, serve with a sprinkle of shredded cheese and a side of toast.  Or wrapped in a soft tortilla.

Pancakes!  Or waffles!  If you have to resort to the frozen kind, top them with a nice sauce of simple syrup filled with iqf berries.  Add a dash of cayenne to the sauce for an interesting kick.

Hi loran - welcome to the forum.

Eggs are a good choice.  Toast a split English muffin or 2 pieces of favourite bread (soda bread is nice),  Cover with grated cheese and grill while you poach 2 eggs in water with a little vinegar, water needs to be just simmering, for about 3 minutes.  Keep an eye on the toast!  Top the cheesy toasts with a poached egg - there's breakfast.

This may seem gross to some people, but a good quality tin of baked beans in sauce with toast triangles puts a smile on the dial on my other halfs face in the morning. Easy too.  Microwave the BB, make the toast in that time, put the two together.  Takes less than 5 mins.

Quessedillas (sp?) Have some tortillas on hand, whether its in the freezer or fresh.  Top one with grated cheese, sliced smoked ham, slices of tomato, S&P, spices if he likes.  Top with another tortilla.  Place in dry fry pan (or you can spray it with oil - I do it dry) over low heat until browned on bottom, then flip and brown and until cheese melts.  A plain cheddar will do just fine for this.

Some people don't like it, but porridge is really healthy.  Instructions are on the box.  Can add some honey, or jam, or diced fruits.

I'm always partial to scrambled eggs with a little pepper jack cheese, maybe a couple of pieces of nice bacon, a perfectly toasted English Muffin and freshly brewed, freshly ground coffee with a little 1/2 and 1/2.

There are all sorts of things you can make, but not in 25 minutes, and not that won't put him in a sugar-induced stupor all morning. Pancakes and sausage with real maple syrup are really nice, but if he's going to work, he'd never make it to lunch without a nap.

Blintzes....premake and freeze, serve with fruit

cheesey grits (or polenta if you live anywhere other than southern america) with poached eggs

Whole grains with dried fruit, orange zest, cinnamon

muffins are easy enough to bakeoff if you have all the dry measured and other ingredients ready to go.....

A grilled cheese sandwich with over easy them with country bread and really aged cheddar


egg souffle roulade....cutting it close on the 25 minutes but can be made in advance, filled and reheated.  if bech is made in advance then just beating the whites and baking off would be less than 25 minutes.

Biscuits with ham or sausage...real deal biscuits.

Frankly, I'm confused by the question. Offhand I can't think of any breakfast food that would require more than 25 minutes. Even that much time is pushing the envelope if you do the prep ahead of time.

Even all the myriad variations on the Eggs Benedict theme can be completed within that time frame. And he'll certainly be impressed with a breadfast like that.

Lot's of good suggestions above. Also keep in mind that you can mix up pancake or waffle batter the night before and keep it in the fridge until needed. Same goes for potatoes. Precook them for hash browns or home fries and they only take a couple of minutes in the morning.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned French toast and its many variations.

In short, there are infinate possibilities.

when I was a kid, mom would make a ton of french toast on the weekend then freeze em. we kids would just pop them into the toaster for breakfast before school. She hated the idea that pop tarts were considered breakfast.

Before you go to bed the night before poke holes in 2 potatoes and stick them in the microwave for 10-15 minutes.  Then put them in the refrigerator.

The next day, chop up the potato, along with a little onion and even a red or green pepper and mushrooms.  Heat a skillet, add olive oil, and dump in all the ingredients.  When they are brown and cooked through add a couple of scrambled eggs.  This shouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

bircher museli is great, and takes about 10mins to prepare the night before... its basically just everything youd put in your museli in the morning, left in the fridge overnight. it sounds a bit dodgy but is really really nice! google come recipes as i dunno how much you want to make or how long it will last in your house, and i find that everyone (well the ppl i know who actually like it) have theirs all a bit different.

ive poached the ingredients from neil perrys website to give you an idea
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 2 Juice of Lemons
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 granny smith apples
  • 2 cups Plain Yoghurt
  • 6 tablespoons Honey
  • Fresh Fruit to serve or poached in the winter
  • 4 tablespoons Roasted Hazelnuts skinned and crushed to serve
i substitute the water for juice (apple or cranberry are my faves), and use less honey than that, but its all personal really! i love it with some fresh milk poured over it to cut thru the stodgy-ness (yup i just made up a new word!) with berries, but its also great with stewed fruit or warmed up canned fruit in the winter... its also really good for you! play around with it till you find a combo you like, but dont make more than you think youll eat in a day because it can go a bit TOO gluggy!

Great breakfast ideas! I always forget to eat breakfast, this will motivate me to have a bite each morning.
