i have bought beef sirloin off my market for 5 years only this time has it tasted different after cooking for few hours.  basically it tasted 'soggy' , 'spongy' on eating . not meaty.. always has been in plastic etc. i wonder what has caused this ??

Check the label on the packaging.  Was it injected.  If so, walk away.   You gotta' inquire to your grocer.

Chemical meat tenderizers will sometimes cause that texture.

As what Mimi stated.  Sounds as if your grocer pulled a real switcheroo on their meat.  READ THE LABEL affixed to the meat's packaging for it'll state if it's been altered in any way.

Would like to see how this ends as well, as many people tend to trust their butcher, especially

if in a hurry when shopping, unless they've developed the habit of ALWYAS checking.

Once burned, twice as paranoid. /img/vbsmilies/smilies/redface.gif

There is a reason I buy beef straight from the farm, no additives at all.
