    AAAA – LLLL – OOOO – HAAAA !!

I am so happy to have found Cheftalk.com

My husband is not a foodie, he can’t even boil water.   I think that I have found my own little niche where I can communicate with people who are going to “get me”.    We have moved to a community where food is not a big deal, that’s not what it was like where I grew up.   Food is comforting, soothing, giving, sharing, welcoming, I mean I could probably go on for two pages.   Think about it, how many homes have you walked into and heard, “Did you eat?”   “Sit down, eat a little something”,  or the one that I love the most from my hometown, “Come inside, sit down ‘cuz, eat, eat, get plenty”.

I look forward to many interesting discussions on this forum.

Hello - and welcome to Cheftalk!

It's very hard when you move somewhere new and you find that food is not the same big deal to others as it is to you.  I know, I've lived around the globe and it can be pretty offputting to be landed in an area that doesn't really seem to care for food!

Our membership is from around the globe and, as a result, we have some pretty knowledgeable members to discuss even fairly obscure cuisines and topics!  The skills levels vary from those just starting out on their culinary journey to master chefs, and all points in between.

The wikis, blogs, articles, photographs and reviews on the site are all well worth spending some time to view.  Feel free to join in on any thread you find interesting, or start your own in the relevant forum.  However, please note that the professional fora are read-only for those of us who are not currently employed in a culinary trade (but they still make fascinating reading - at least I think so!)

Hope to see you around the boards!

Welcome and aloha. Have always wanted to go to Hawaii and try the famous pig roasts there. Let us (moderators) know if you have any questions.

Welcome to Cheftalk, I used to work for Spencecliff on Oahu, lived in Makiki. I Managed a small Cafe at Bishop Museum, Coco's, Spencecliff Catering, The coffee shop at Ala Moana Ctr, and Prince Kuhio at Ala Moana ctr. I don't know if you are old enough to remember these or not. We go over to Oahu during Christmas and like going to the shrimp trucks and a few of the old restaurants. The Shoyu Chicken plate lunch at Rainbow drive in is still a favorite. I never have enough time to catch them all.........I used to drive up to the wall at Hanauma day and walk down the Hill to snorkel, now it takes an hour in line and watching a movie to get in, it also used to be free...........take care and Aloha.....ChefBillyB

Aloha ChefBillyB!!  and yes I am old enough,unfortunately... one of my old time favs, growing up in Kaneohe, was Tiki Tops!!  My husband and I have only been home twice since we left in 2007, but our first stop has always been to EAT!!!  This past June we went to Genki Sushi on Kapahulu Ave, the next morning it was ZIPPY'S, fried rice-two eggs over easy-and portuegese sausage, oh yeah, and a Napple on the side... man, what is it about food?

Mahalo Nicko, I hope you make to Hawaii one day, it's a wonderful place.  As for the pig, it's the bomb!  The stuff that you can make in the oven is just not the same.  One year for Thanksgiving, we did our turkeys (non stuffed, of course) in the "imu" or under ground pit oven, WOW!!!!  Talk about fall off the bone, broke the mouth, delicious!!  But again, chef nicko, thank you for the welcome.

    Aloha Kakahiaka ChefBillyB!!

Kaneohe isn't the small town that it use to be... I can't say that I know Officer Huihui, but that is a very popular last name in Hawaii... went to school with a few...but do sent your friend our Aloha...

In the past five years, I've :

    started a blog

    owned an online bakery

    started an Etsy.com shop

been a MOD here at ChefTalk (as well as on other sites)

    connected with other foodies

met (in person) some wonderful folks through all of the above

honed my cooking/baking skills (although we never stop learning, now do we)

had some VERY lively discussions on various topics

generally had a great time, MAHALO, thanks everyone,

I look forward to many more years
