I've experimented with juicing over the years, not as a lifestyle by any means, but I do believe science backs up the fact that many vegetables have nutritional value that is lost during the process of cooking. I've always enjoyed V8 juice myself, so it seemed if I could extract something similar from fresh vegetables it would be ideal from a flavor and health standpoint.
The problem was, that the juicers that I had experience with were noisy and extremely difficult to clean. So much so that in the past I abandoned juicing altogether because cleanup was just too much hassle.
Enter the Omega J8006. I had read about cold pressing juice, and whether you are concerned with the implications of cold press or not, this unit was attractive to me because the design allows for what they call "endless juicing". This system uses an auger to masticate the product you put through it at a low RPM and expels the pulp and fiber through a sort of gasket on the end. So basically, as long as you have the ability to clear out the waste, this machine can keep juicing for hours.
Where most centrifugal juicers have a very large fine screen that is difficult to clean, the Omega J8006 uses a small screen approximately 1 inch long and 3/4 inch in diameter. Outside of that, the parts are simple and easy to break down and rinse.
I have thrown most vegetables and fruits at this unit and it consistently handles leafy greens, fibrous vegetables like celery, apples, blueberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. The pulp that is expelled is very dry, which helps with the economy of juicing by ensuring you are getting as much yield as possible. The pulp is great to use in creating soup base, or simply added to your compost pile.
Ultimately while a bit expensive this unit is attractive, well built and extremely capable of handling your juicing needs with an ease of cleanup. I have not experimented with the additional components, but this unit ships with attachments that allow you to extrude pasta and grind things like peanuts to almonds into butter.
