  • Fissler Blue Point pressure cookers combine healthy nutrition with gentle cooking, since atmospheric oxygen is expelled and the cooking periods are quite short. Vitamins and minerals, as well as nutrients and flavor, are thus preserved. You can see and taste the difference. With Blue Point, you save up to 70% of the regular cooking time and as much as 50% of the energy traditionally used in cooking. Blue Point pressure cookers have two pressure levels, a gentle pressure level for cooking delicate food like vegetables and fish without destroying nutrients, and a speed pressure level for cooking meats and stews quickly. Blue Point pressure cookers are very unique in that they are completely silent. There is no unnerving rattling or hissing while pressure is inside. Once the oxygen is expelled and the valve locks into place, hardly any steam escapes into the air during the cooking process keeping the kitchen cooler. Because there is no steam, there are no cooking odors. Blue Point pressure cookers exceed the minimum safety requirements of Europe and the United States with patented innovative features such as the Euromatic safety valve, residual pressure block, interlocking lid, and automatic steam release. The CookStar all-stove base, comprised of a pure aluminum core and high-quality 18/10 stainless steel, ensures that the base that will never separate or warp. The energy-saving base also provides quick optimal heat distribution, diffusion, and storage without any hot spots. Safe for use on induction stoves and in the dishwasher. Limited lifetime warranty. Made in Germany.

Cons - Pressure lid can jam if lock is on while trying to attach
I purchased this set as a Woot Sellout sale.  I had been struggling with a WMF Pressure Perfect cooker and when the two Fissler set showed up for $150 I jumped on the deal.  Strangely enough, the problems I had with the WMF, which was that the overpressure relief venting before the full pressure of the cooker was reached, was repeated in the Fisslers.  User error you might say, and I almost thought so myself, but a call to Fissler had a new valve assembly heading my way.  Replacing this part, which could not have been simpler, fixed the problem.  The blue pressure indicator would reach well past two rings before the safety release would start to open.  Unfortunately, all calls and emails to WMF were ignored.  Fissler, on the other hand, could not have been more helpful.

The cookers are simple to operate.  If you've ever used a pressure cooker of any sort this one should be no problem to use.  Food goes in, lid goes on and stove set to high until pressure is reached.  There is a valve in the lid which allows steam to escape until it snaps closed and the pressure starts to build.  I believe that Fissler marketing states that this is to purge oxygen fromt the cooker. Whether this is a useful feature or not I cannot say, but it seals quickly and the cooker reaches two rings (15psi) in a few minutes. In normal operation the cooker is completely silent.

I have found, on my ceramic topped stove, that I must turn the burner completely off before reaching pressure, or it will overshoot and start to hiss.  Once stabilized, however, it only takes a 2 or 3 setting on the dial to maintain pressure. Besides efficiency, this reduces the possibility of scorching food during long cooks.  Very little additional heat is required to maintain pressure, and for a lot of things (like dried beans for example), removing the cooker from the burner once pressure is reached and letting the pressure reduce naturally is all that is required to finish cooking them.

The only real problem I've found with this cooker is the safety latch on the lid.  It works correctly to latch the lid and release pressure, but if it is in the locked position when you try to put the lid on the cooker, it will cause the lid to jam and it is extremely hard to remove.  I don't believe that the cooker would seal like that (an obvious safety concern), but it is annoying.  Still, it is easy to check the latch before attaching the lid and really is not much of a problem.  In all other regards I love this cooker.

Overall, I could not be more pleased with this set.  I find new uses for it all the time, and use the 6L almost daily.  The included steam basket is well made and a favorite addition.  The glass lid gets some use, but mostly I use a pressure cooker for, well... pressure cooking.  I've not used the skillet much, but it works as well as the larger pot. If you get only one, however, get the bigger one.
